这是我的一个尝试,因为我在制作的中途收到了朋友的反馈建议我用全上色的方式代替黑白漫画的形式,我当然知道这样更容易吸引观众看下去,但是我再尝试画了这一张之后我发现要花费的时间还是太多了.于是我决定只有开头的几段用彩色+动画的形式来尝试吸引观众看下去.

我没有在任何一个领域有非常突出的成就,也无法舍弃任何一个领域,在过去我非常纠结我能要专一还是放弃,现在我觉得正是这些东西组成了我.

At the same time, I studied some comic works. I tried to analyze their visual language.

I chose to study comics because they are the most intuitive form of visual language. The use of black and white, positive and negative shapes, and lines themselves convey the intended meaning.

They play different roles in different panels, which is one of the reasons why black and white comics attract me so much.

But the downside is that my cognition has been reshaped, which is a long and painful process.

There have been subtle conflicts between my cognition and the knowledge I have accumulated over a long period of time, making it difficult for me to express what I like with a paintbrush as seamlessly as before. This is also the reason why I spent the most time on this project but completed the fewest tasks. In this transition process, I have not yet formed a new knowledge system to help me complete this project. Although I feel I have new ideas and insights, a complete output is still very difficult, so I did not finish it. I need more time to develop new cognition.

So, from that moment on, an idea gradually sprouted in my mind: I wanted to create my own story.

I've decided to target the audience among enthusiasts of subcultures; I want to build my own intellectual property (IP).

Due to the influence of my father's interests and my personal beliefs, I have a peculiar obsession with Dunhuang murals.

While these murals may have faded over time, to me, they represent a new visual effect born from the fusion of art and time. One reason I subconsciously chose these particular colors as the protagonists' representative hues is because of the influence of Dunhuang murals.

Moreover, the color tones of the four main characters happen to correspond to them, so I made some subtle adjustments to bring the elements closer together.

I believe that Buddhist studies have not only influenced my aesthetics but also changed my perception. Therefore, I hold a special affection for Buddhism, whether in philosophy or aesthetics.

I love the interactions between the human and divine characters in this work, as well as the subtle clashes of ideas that occur in some events. The diverse cast of characters creates a gentle and interesting world. One character that left a deep impression on me is Sardonyx, a gemstone with a gap between her front teeth. Despite this "flaw," her lively and powerful personality easily makes one overlook it. I learned from discussions in fan communities that the designer of Sardonyx herself has a gap between her front teeth, which inspired this aspect of the character's design. This little "imperfection" as a personality trait is very successful and meaningful! It reminds me of myself, as I also had a gap between my front teeth when I was younger. I have forgotten the feeling back then, but my mother disliked this flaw, so she took me for dental surgery to reduce or eliminate the gap. Now, I am grateful to her because appearance anxiety is very serious in China, and I cannot imagine how my school life would have been if she hadn't taken me for that surgery. Thinking about this, I have to say, this is the benefit of advocating for diverse works now. If it were me now, I would definitely think that Sardonyx's gap in her teeth is cool! So what if she has it!

Overall, this work tends to lean towards a fairytale style, very innocent and romantic, which is why I am drawn to it. Besides the surface, I personally feel that this work expresses the themes of life through each small story. I don't have profound thoughts on this because the concept of themes is something I learned from a psychologist, but I resonate with many aspects of this work while enjoying it, which brings me comfort. For me, this is the significance of literary works.

I'm deeply impressed by this promotional video. Despite having read the original work, it never fails to be impactful no matter how many times I watch it. I believe condensing multiple plot points into a few comic screenshots, coupled with suspenseful background music, is a worth-trying approach to capture readers' interest. However, this work already has a large fan base and is quite popular. Creating a promotional video in this manner requires a certain level of familiarity with the original content to find it interesting, so there's a certain threshold. Therefore, I want to use this format as a foundation to promote my yet-to-be-completed manga, "Fundamentally Nonexistent."

Creating a promotional video using artwork, rhythm, and text (dialogues) to build a sense of anticipation and finding my unique style is what I aim to experiment with this time.

The suspense in the storyline and leaving room for interpretation are also elements I want to design.

主打一个少年气和中性.

Lapis's brother, due to his introverted nature and somewhat timid personality, was unable to inherit the family business. He suffered a mental breakdown and retreated to the mountains after being shot through the right ear during a business conflict.

Due to overwork, Lapis developed stomach cancer and only had three years to live. At this time, she met the other three main characters. She thought, with only a few years left, why not let go of everything and live for herself?

I had a special admiration for Egypt culture a long time ago, and after visiting in 2023, I gained even more inspiration. During my travels, I discovered that Egypt's economy was more sluggish than I had imagined. After inquiring with local guides and friends, I learned that this was a helpless situation. I found it regrettable; Egypt is a beautiful and mysterious place, and I believe the people deserve a better life. So, in this story, a female leader emerged to change everything.

Throughout the journey in Egypt, the places she lived, her hometown background, and some aspects of her personality and behavior were further developed. Although she is a character of my imagination, she became clearer after this journey.

I really like this character, and she is currently the only character in my writing with a family history.

Q: I feel like you're a bit too anxious; this is not something one person can accomplish.

A: Yes... I feel like I have some age anxiety, and I'm eager to achieve.

I'm afraid of being too focused on the "finished form," but I'm also worried that I might get lost in exploration and forget my ultimate goal.

A: Yes! I looked at the process of making manga, as I mentioned before, and I hope to refine my preliminary work throughout my university time, publishing my first manga as an independent author upon graduation.

Q: But I feel like this is more of a kind of summary, like a linear development. I thought you would pay more attention to breadth, like the development on the artistic style side.

A: You're right... I might have deviated a bit. So, in the next project, I'll focus more on exploring styles.

Firstly, a character needs strong background support, which includes but is not limited to:

Character's basic settings, character's story, character's motivations, and the pursuit of goals in the story. Therefore, in this project, creating a visual representation of the character is one aspect. On the other hand, I also need to supplement some basic character settings because I'm not good at design. Just presenting a character in ordinary attire as a finished product is not very convincing. I will provide some basic textual settings as support and gradually reveal the worldview of the story and the uniqueness of the characters.

为什么这样的构图好看?

如果逆着去推,把它做得不好看,导致变好看的原因是什么?

We delved into the echoes and details of composition, as well as internal details like symbols such as yin and yang. Often, it's the subtle hints in these intricate details that contribute to the greatness of a piece of artwork. She pointed out that in this movie screenshot, the small light source behind the protagonist's head is the highlight of the artwork. Despite its inconspicuous location, it subtly suggests the sense of space behind and complements the technique of the prominent light source in the foreground. It's a clever arrangement, possibly even intentionally placed by the director. Summarizing it as color blocks also cleverly abstracts it into triangles, illuminating the background. This enriches the entire composition.

Personally, I'm not very comfortable directly soliciting feedback from anyone, so I can only discuss these matters with friends in the form of exploration and discussion like this.

A: Yes, I feel like I went off track a bit. My goal was to use the setting and some basic story elements to support and enrich the depth of the characters. However, I think I might have spent too much time organizing these aspects, making the outcome look less appealing and deviating from the original intention.

But I've also learned lessons from this failure, and I plan to better plan next time, like some elements to attract other audiences.

As some of these interactions took place over the phone, I will document them in a Q&A format similar to an interview.

A: Actually, I was conflicted at the beginning, but I found that when I force myself to do something else, I lack enthusiasm and motivation. In a tutorial, the teacher suggested that maybe I could try creating my own "legacy," and I found it interesting, immediately generating some ideas. But then, the dilemma struck again. After much contemplation, I realized that my life goal is to leave something behind in this world. Besides the physically tangible, I believe art is eternal. However, this topic is a bit far-reaching and involves questions about the value of life...

I am creating portraits of them, but readers can see "my self-portrait" in them.

I thought about my current life goal at this stage: I want to be a creative director or IP operator. I am drawn to interesting things, things that are flexible, as they tend to inspire me. There's a proverb in Chinese called "投石问路," which translates to "casting a stone to inquire the way."In this project, I want to throw stones forward and get some answers in the echoes.

Therefore, I attempted to deconstruct my perception of painting and reconstruct a normal system and approach to drawing. In the past, I was fixated on refining techniques. Although this obsession cannot be completely abandoned now, I want to change gradually, step by step.

Given my relatively deep understanding of Asian subcultures, especially in Japan, I knew there would be various paid commission websites available. As expected, after some searching, I found platforms offering language readings for a fee.

I found some Japanese voice actors that I liked and considered using dialogue from similar existing characters in the videos. I began gathering information, recording screen clips on my phone, and extracting similar segments. I also attempted to separate background music from character dialogue using software, which consumed a considerable amount of time. It took me almost two days to realize that I was gradually deviating from the main theme.

As I mentioned earlier, in these two projects, I feel that my passion for exploration and lack of focus are significant challenges for me. I need to gradually overcome these issues in the future.

Whenever I'm learning something new, I can't help but want to explore more interesting things. This inevitably leads to the possibility of learning and forgetting along the way. I find the learning process very fulfilling, and I enjoy the visual feast that these tools provide.

At the same time, I've also spent too much time selecting mood boards and finalizing storyboards. Planning and execution have always been my weak points, and I feel like I might need to spend more time finalizing them.

My attention tends to wander, and I often get new ideas halfway through.

I feel that the part where the protagonist encounters trouble doesn't really convey the story of "an astronaut encountering trouble."

A: Because I set the story 50 years in the future, intending to show significant technological advancements, so I opted for the design of the tight-fitting suit.

In fact, many of the settings were drawn subconsciously. My mind jumps quickly, so I probably can't explain every detail in depth. However, this does remind me that after some time, I feel that the tight-fitting space suit doesn't quite evoke the right feeling. I've decided to make some modifications later on.

我是很想做一部方方面面都带着中国呢元素的作品.但是每一项都带有中国元素就会太明显了显得很刻意,所以我在想我就顺其自然地把有很多中国文化的元素和典故放进这个作品的方方面面.所以这个作品每个人天赋的代表icon我选择了用八卦图.

不过八卦和易经这些都是需要人去花几十年甚至一辈子才能学会的知识,我没有研究清楚现在只能属于刚接触的阶段不能算很了解,只能说我先引用了这个设定,没法讲出很多背后真正的含义.

Admittedly, this might sound a bit obsessive. Sometimes, I feel like the characters and the story are right there, waiting for me to discover them, much like it's described in some books.

Of course, Babylon no longer exists, but many myths and legends left by Babylon still evoke great fascination. From what I have learned from various historical records, it seems that humans lived alongside gods during the time of Babylon. So, I designed Luni as one of the partial deities left from that era of Babylon. In this story, she serves as a mentor, guiding her students in finding themselves amidst the currents of time.这四个主角分别来自四大文明古国,中国,巴比伦,印度和埃及.

选择的原因首先是出于整个作品中有一种特别的氛围,我觉得我很难用词汇去形容,但是一定要具像化的话我觉得是一种轻快的年轻的潮流音乐在乐曲的高潮部分突然停滞,几个拍子之后,取而代之的是古典乐器,像是大提琴之类的一段独奏.

像是一个故事用看似轻快的氛围,实际在讲述一个寂寞的故事.整个基调都是被掩盖的悲伤.

而且总体来说它们多多少少都和宇宙沾了点关系.

宇宙很残酷,角色的相遇就像是升空的烟火,只存在一瞬间,但是对于角色所处的时间观来说,这瞬间的本身就是永恒.

目前阶段已经有了一些基本的设定,比如世界的构成和各个阵营,

还有角色所追求的麦高芬.

但是全部都放在这一个单元来说有些困难了,所以我会挑出来一些设定进行细化和讲解.

功能简单形式上虽然没有那么复杂但是足够目前的我来做了.其中还是浪费了不少时间的,最后只能做到这个程度.

When I first encountered the works of Joan Miró, my initial reaction was confusion. As a novice in the world of art, I lacked the experience to appreciate why he was considered a master. But as I studied some of his other works more closely, I gradually began to grasp the feeling behind them. My second impression was a sense of comfort in the composition. Isn't this what I seek in art? I'm here to find echoes, to hear resonance. Although Joan Miró's works may not demonstrate extensive technical knowledge, they are visually pleasing to the audience, with the subconscious principles of composition manifesting vividly in his paintings.

Due to the influence of the internet, I often feel anxious, as if I cannot progress without pursuing technical proficiency. I believe that I must accumulate a vast amount of knowledge to create a perfect piece of artwork. However, as I explored various artists in this project who prioritize aesthetics over technique, I began to feel some relief. I should slow down and remember why I love art—it's because I genuinely enjoy it. I need to return to my true self.

Having reviewed some interactive advertising cases, considering that my work is still in the stage of constructing its framework compared to fictional realities, the objective of this project is to allow others to gain a preliminary understanding of my work. There are currently no guarantees that it will pique people's interest, but at the very least, I hope that those exposed to the promotion of my work will form an impression of it.

A: "While I'm touched that you can imagine extensions of my work, I feel like most viewers won't grasp it even after seeing it. There's just too much in my mind, and even after these four projects, I haven't been able to organize it properly."

Q: "I'm not very knowledgeable about art, but do you think you need more textual output as a way of organizing?"

A: "Like making a set of settings."

Why did I choose game official websites as a reference? Firstly, because game official websites offer the most intuitive visual experience of the work. Posters are just a part of it, and the information displayed there is far less detailed than what can be found on the official websites.

Secondly, I believe games provide a clearer framework for me to refer to.

Finally, I think the success of a game largely depends on its artistry and immersion. SPLATOON, as one of the games beloved by many artists around me, undoubtedly achieves both. Its outstanding artistry and some wonderful interactive designs add extra charm to this work.

Their works are very light and even have a relaxing feel to me. I enjoy appreciating such works because the mood I get from them is that they are enjoying painting. Despite having a subtle gray tone and not very intense emotions, I long for this peaceful and relaxed atmosphere.
