One of the main ideas behind the American Court system is that the Judicial Branch is impartial to any categorizing factor except for upholding the proper law itself (no party, race, background, or other influence).
2. The purpose of the Courts is to settle disputes according to the law; in doing so they must determine whether a law has been broken and the penalties to apply, decide how to provide relief for those who have been harmed by the actions of another, and determine the meaning of a particular law within the Constitution.
3. In addition to State Courts, the new Constitution that the Framers wrote included Federal Courts to help determine what the law really was. Before, State Courts often ruled differently and contradictory of one another.
