It is caused by Greenhouse Gases and pollutants, such as carbon dioxide(Co2) which traps the heat that would otherwise reflect into space. This is known as the Greenhouse Effect.
These pollutants stay in the atmosphere for thousands of years. The largest source of Co2 pollution in the USA is the burning of coal for electricity. It produces 2 billion tons per year.

Bethari and Tegan hacked into the surveillance with Bethari’s genius work of her magic fingers. When suddenly they saw a truck pull in and out got Colonel Dawson, The Head of Operation New beginning and he was not in full uniform. They were unloading stuff out of the truck and putting it into the warehouse. The next morning Colonel Dawson picked Tegan up from Bethari’s house and took her back to Marie. On there was Colonel Dawson told Tegan that she had an interview that was set up and she was going to talk about her story to the world. Tegan didn’t agree to this but she had to do it because if she didn’t the person interviewing her, Carl Hurfest would make a very interesting story about her not turning up to the interview that would go on for days but if she went her story would be told and everyone would know about it.

When we wake is a novel that is built around the theme of dystopia and dystopian literature. Dystopian literature is a form of writing that is based on the imperfections in society. Dystopia is the main, overarching theme and is a main driving force throughout the novel and this book is basically telling us to act before it’s too late, and it also tells us how if there are imperfections in society, we need to act on them.

I am exploring the theme of when are we going to wake up to the problems of society.
 
    3.Why is it an important theme in the novel?

It is important literally and figuratively. The literal way is when Tegan wakes up to the future and sees how it has become. The other way it is important is the idea that people don’t care about what is happening and why. They only care when it affects them, and by that time it is to late

      4. How does a character react to this theme?

Tegan is devastated of what has happened to the world and she clearly displays her views in the interview with Carl Hurfest in the novel, saying “this is not the world I wanted”, trying to tell people that the world that they live in isn’t good.

      5. How does a theme cause a character to change in the novel?

This Theme Causes Tegan To Change from her Happy self in her old life to an activist in the future. When no one wakes up to the problems of the world, she goes rage in the interview and runs away to compromise the “ark project”

   6. What insight is the Audience Supposed to take away in response to this theme?

The Audience (us) is supposed to take away what is happening to the world. The book is trying to tell us to do something about our problems (global warming) now while we still can and before they become unsolvable like they are in “when we wake”.

Which theme are you exploring?

The theme I am exploring is ‘’Courage.’’ Courage is the mental or moral strength to set forth to withstand danger, fear or difficulty. This is an important theme because a lot of characters in When We Wake are full of courage especially Tegan. Tegan is a strong, independent girl who is courageous and is willing to be of help. She is the voice of all the people who have been or is a part of “The Operation New Beginning.’’ 

Why is this an important theme?

This is an important theme in the novel because not many of the characters are confident enough to have the courage they need in certain situations in the novel, or at least they don’t seem to. Tegan takes on this trait as a professional. It takes a lot of effort for someone to have courage in life but Tegan is just born with courage. She has a courageous heart. Tegan shows courage when she stood up for herself and Taalib when captured and shipped to Tasmania to meet “The Father.”

How does this theme cause a character to change in the novel?

Seeing that Tegan has come a long way into the future, she has been more aware of her surroundings. Tegan doesn’t try to blend into the crowd but rather stand out with her own uniqueness. She doesn’t care mostly about what anyone thinks but of what she thinks. I think she stands out more when her courageous side kicks in and she shows this when she wants to get to the point.  

What does a character learn in relation to the theme?

The character learns to take her own actions in things and tries to save or rather help others by doing what she thinks is right. As I said Tegan is independent and sometimes with a little help from her friends she gets the job done. Tegan has learnt to be full of courage in many situations and to show that courage no matter what.

What insight is the audience supposed to take away in response to this theme?

The book is trying to help us to take on courage and use it in situations and to use it for the good and better of us as the audience and fellow people. Everyone should have courage and if we do we must show it at the right times.

 

What is a theme? A theme is like an idea or a message that is conveyed across the book and is important because it impacts on the characters and the plot and also because it usually has a lesson that comes with it.

I will be telling you about the theme of change. Change is important because without it a novel would not work and it would be boring. Change progresses the story as well as influencing characters to do things. For example, when Tegan wakes up in 2127 and has to readjust to the new world she’s living in, it forces her to do things that on most other occasions she wouldn’t do.

Characters deal with change differently. Some want to create it, some want to hide from it and some want to just go with it. The change Tegan feels, she just has to put up with it. She cries a little bit but gets over it shortly whereas for the media Tegan is the change and the media are swarming t get a look at her. Dawson on the other hand wants to try to save humanity because of the atmospheric change and global warming, he tries to be the saviour. Bethari, Abdi and Joph are all brave and want to fight for the change they want and against the change they don’t want.

The theme of change has one of the biggest effects on the novel, it is huge because of how big some of the changes are. It changes the time period to one-hundred years in the future, it makes Dawson want to launch people into space because of changes in the atmosphere. 

Tegan has to learn to use technologies and has to get used to the temperature and the pain of losing all her loved ones but the main thing she learns is how quickly things can change and how you need to act immediately.

What your supposed to learn from this theme is that things can seem to change quickly, and you only have a short time to act so act while you can and whenever you see a problem.

Marie cleaned out her soars with a revolting mixture that smelt disgusting what’s operation knew beginnings she asked it is a human revival Marie explained and you’re the first successful revival later they put Tegan in a bed with some clothes and a kitchen it was out of a museum to make Tegan fell more at home in her room they even put ab old stereo with some CDs in it.
