In 2013, 21-year-old Elisa Lam was found dead inside a rooftop water tank at the Cecil Hotel in Los Angeles. A viral elevator video captured her behaving strangely before she disappeared. Although officials ruled her death an accident, many believe there’s more to the story. Based on various online accounts and suspicious details, I believe Elisa Lam was murdered—and the truth may have been covered up.

@anonemployee123

“The rooftop door was always locked. The tank lid is way too heavy—no way she got in or closed it alone.” (This suggests Elisa couldn’t have entered or closed the tank by herself, pointing toward possible foul play)

@cOnspiracy_Kat

"No alarms went off. How did she even get to the roof? Someone helped her—staff or guest maybe?" (This raises serious questions about hotel security and suggests someone else had access to the roof)

@logic_liam

I read the autopsy. No drugs, no injuries. Looks like a mental health episode. She wandered to the roof—accident, not murder.

(This made me second-guess my theory for a moment, but the physical evidence still doesn’t match up.)

@ghosthunter_grace

That hotel is cursed. Elisa was clearly being followed by some spirit. Watch the elevator video—it’s not normal.

(Interesting, but this theory distracts from real-world facts. I focused more on concrete clues.)

Some believed Elisa had a mental health episode and accidentally ended up in the tank. Others blamed supernatural forces, saying the hotel was cursed. While these ideas are popular, they don’t explain how she got onto a locked rooftop undetected.

These posts made me question my theory—but instead of feeling closer to the truth, I felt more lost. The gaps in the story only grew wider. Missing footage, silent security guards, and strange footprints raised more questions than answers.

Maybe the truth isn’t something I’m meant to find. Maybe it’s buried beneath layers of deception and fear. Or maybe, I’m chasing shadows that will never lead anywhere.

At this point, all I know is that the more I dig, the less I understand—and that scares me even more.

I believe Elisa Lam was murdered, and the evidence was either ignored or hidden. Physical clues like the heavy lid and locked doors just don’t fit the “accident” story.

While we may never know the full truth, too many questions remain unanswered. This mystery shows how important it is to question everything—even what we’re told is “solved.”
