The first type of interaction between verbal and nonverbal communication is to repeat, which means to reemphasize a point with both your verbal and nonverbal messages. In the context of my next interview, I would use this technique when trying to emphasize an important point. For example, when discussing my passion for teamwork within the workplace I may shake my head yes to repeat that point nonverbally.

The second form of interaction between verbal and nonverbal communication is to accent, which is when a person uses nonverbal communication to change the interpretation of verbal communication. In the context of my next job interview, I would use this skill when discussing how much I dislike laziness in the workplace, I may shake my fist to accent that point nonverbally.

The third form of interaction between verbal and nonverbal communication is to substitute, which means to use a nonverbal gesture in place of a verbal cue. In the context of my next interview, I may use this technique when asked a question by the interviewer I could nod my head yes in agreement rather than simply saying yes out loud.

The fourth form of interaction between verbal and nonverbal communication is to conflict, which means to send a verbal and nonverbal message that conflict with one another within the same interaction. Within the context of my next important interview, I would use this technique if I made a joke to the interviewer, I would add in some conflicting nonverbal cues to reassure them that the joke is in fact a joke.

The fifth form of interaction between verbal and nonverbal communication is to compliment, which means to use verbal and nonverbal communication to complement one another and emphasize one another. In the context of my next job interview I would use this skill to reaffirm that I am passionate about what I'm saying. For example, I may use hand gestures when speaking about important social issues to emphasize how strongly I feel and complement the message I'm giving verbally.

The sixth and final form of interaction between verbal and nonverbal communication is to regulate, which means to use a nonverbal message to regulate the conversation. In the context of my next big job interview I may use this technique when talking to the interviewer at the end of the interview before leaving, I may touch their should to nonverbally regulate that I would like to speak next.
