Aztecs are amazing at adapting to thier surroundings. They had to find ways to get food. They could find a way to farm almost anywhere, especealy mountains. The Aztec land was very mountainous and there wasn't much flat land for farming. So, they improvised. They started by finding some way to make flat land then they discoverd the stair case technique, They would basicaly make the whole mountain into a giant stair case! This wasn't as simple as you would think, they didn't have the tools that we have today. That means, no digging machines, no cranes, and no bulldosers. However, they did have shovels, and pick axes. They also had to make these tools themselves. These tools need a lot of physical strength, it takes a lot to lift 5 pounds of dirt 500 times. Once they had made the stair case they would plant the crops on it.

Aztecs were also able to build thier houses on the mountainous slopes of modern day Mexico. These slopes seem like quite a challenge but not for the Aztecs! They just leveld out the mountains and built thier houses on that! They used the same technique that the farmers use today.

The Mayans were one of the smartest people of thier time. They originaly invented the calender. The Mayan calender is basicaly a carving on a large circular stone. Depending on the turned parts you could keep track of the days. Mayan culture is very much similar to the Aztec. The Myan"s did blood sacrifice. This means they take the blood and offer it to the Gods. They belived not doing this brings havok to the villages and towns of the Mayans.

The Aztecs mainly belived that that if you didn't sacrafice at least one human a day the sun would not rise the next day! The Aztecs used to sacrafise about 20,000 people a YEAR!!

The Mayans were not as blood thirsty as the Aztecs. Mayans sacraficed not as often as the Aztecs. In the end, both tribes practiced sacrifice, and both sacrificed for the various Gods they believed in.

The Aztecs were a great civilization, have you ever wondered if other tribes tried to attack or invade? Or, how did they defend thier great cities?

Aztecs were very skilled in the arts of war, they invented the spear thower, also they were allways prepared before battle. They developed new war tactics that the other tribes didn't expect. For example, they would often have a large force charge strait at them while others flank from the right and left. This would allow them to surround them and most likely win the battle. After this they would take the rest prisoners of war. (for sacrifice or rituals).

The spear thrower. This Aztec weapon was just basicaly a stick with a hook on the end, this would act as an extention of the arm allowing for more leverage and longer range.

As you can see, the Aztecs were all around, a strong empire.
