Throughout the length of this course we did several activities regarding mythical stories and elements. We started by defining what a myth is and the elements mythical elements. We learned more about cosmogonic myths. I really enjoyed creating my cosmogonic myth. It was a fun activity that allowed me to be creative. We then learned a bit more about the hero's journey and the stages. I liked the activities where we had to analyze a movie or character and define the 12 stages of the hero's journey. I realized that most of movies follow Joseph Campbell's definition of the hero's journey. The activities were super fun. I got to analyze my favorite animated film (Ratatouille) and know more about the stages of the hero's journey within this movie. We also talked about rites of passage, more specifically funeral rites. It was very interesting to learn more about how different cultures around the world view death. It was surprising to know that most cultures view death in a similar way. In the end, I believe this course helped me have a better understanding of what myths are and what they truly represent. Myths are not just 'stories', they also tell the story of humanity. Through mythical stories we are able to understand what humans are and how they think.
