The workshop for performative storytelling started an Instagram account. They posted daily stories about Bat Sheva Dagan, Auschwitz or the Holocaust in general. They created videos about their own life and interests and in the end they´re going to connect them to one video.

In general we learn about the National Socialism and the Shoah in history class. To talk about this time in school is an important part of remembering and understanding what happened. In addition many children and young adults read books about this time. 

 

In German cities you can often see little stones on the street in front of houses. They are called “Stumbling stones” and make us remember the Shoah in every-day life. They remind us of Jews, that lived in these houses and were murdered during the Nazi Regime in Germany. On these stones their names and birthdates, the date of deportation and their date of death are engraved.

Sometimes, especially on memorial days people lay down flowers or light candles next to stumbling stones. 

 

Since 25 years, the 27th January is the Day of Remembrance for the Shoah. It’s the date when Auschwitz concentration camp was liberated. On this day there are memorial ceremonies in the German Parliament.  Contemporary witnesses and representatives of Jewish Culture are invited to speak. Unfortunately, many people don ́t pay attention to that day. In my opinion we should take this memorial day as an occasion to remember and talk about the Shoah at school. 

 

At home my family and I sometimes talk about the Shoah. We also talk about antisemitism, that grows again. It is very scary and terrible that there are still fascist people in Germany. 

That’s why it is so important to keep up remembrance and to continue raising awareness so that also future generations will never forget about what happened.

 

In addition, the Shoah and its consequences are taught from a very young age. In school, we see movies that were made about this time, and WW2 and the Shoah are even a part of the material for history class.  

Moreover, we have these exchanges, that used to include actually flying to Germany, but are now virtual due to the Coronavirus. During those exchanges, we travel to some concertation camps and talk about the subject of the Shoah. In this virtual exchange, we talk about this subject and create a lot of projects to make it more accessible.
