I chose this book because Calli is an eleven year old in fifth grade like me. Calli is easy to relate to. Her life is not perfect and she does not have everything figured out. Throughout the book I really admired how Calli was able to communicate to little Noah, who everyone thought was strange. I also really admired her kind heart. Calli gave Noah a chance. That made me want to read more about her.

You should read this book because the theme is don't let other people tell you what your passion or talent is, you must figure that out yourself.  It was great reading about Calli and how she found her passion, but also how she changed other people's lives for the better as she rebelled and fought for her own independent path.

Calli Gold is an 11 year old girl in 5th grade. She is the youngest child in a family of overachievers. Her 7th grade older sister, Becca, is on a competitive figure skating team. Her brother Alex is in high school and is a star basketball player. Calli is feeling very mismatched with her family. Around this time, Calli’s 5th grade class starts a class project. Each fifth grader is paired with a second grader and the theme of the project is “Friendship Fair.” Each team has to come up with a theme about friendship. Calli teams up with a second grader boy named Noah Zullo. He is new to the school and very shy; he has no friends and everyone including his parents thinks he is odd. As the Friendship Fair approaches, Calli starts to realize she really enjoys her time with her shy second grader, Noah Zullo. It seems Calli is the only person who can get him to smile or talk. He even comes up with the ideas for their Friendship Fair project. Calli is so excited that she puts a post-it on the kitchen bulletin board. She tells her mom that it’s really important to her that her family will be at the Fair to support her like they support her older brother and sister. It was the first time Calli put a post-it on the kitchen bulletin board. Her parents aren’t sure if they can be there since it’s the same night as the skating competition and the final basketball game. Will her parents be there to support her? Will their Friendship Booth be a success?
