Following an anti-Soviet protest march through the Hungarian capital of Budapest, the students attempted to enter the city's main broadcasting station to read their demands on the air. Over 20 ÁVH officers were killed, some of them lynched by the mob. Péter Veres, President of the Writers' Union, read a manifesto to the crowd. Afterwards the crowd crossed the River Danube to join demonstrators outside the Parliament Building.
