Today's tutorial taught me three key points. First, the main drivers of climate change include fossil fuel use, deforestation, and industrial pollution. In addition, global climate change has a particularly severe impact on the most vulnerable communities, especially those that rely on agriculture. Moreover, each of us can contribute to addressing the climate crisis by changing our daily behaviors to reduce carbon emissions.

Today's learning activities were very helpful, especially the discussion on how to mitigate climate change through collective and individual actions, which helped me better understand the urgency of the global response to the climate crisis. However, more practical case analysis in class would further enhance our understanding.

For today's topic, I am still confused about how to effectively coordinate the actions of governments, companies, and individuals on a global scale, and I hope to discuss this more in future courses.

Today's class taught me three key points. First, I deepened my understanding of the six transformations of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially how these transformations can promote global sustainable development through education, energy decarbonization, and the digital revolution. In addition, I learned about the complexity of governance structures, processes, and stakeholders, especially how policies and practices are coordinated at different levels. Finally, the relationship between politics, power and policy-making made me realize that policies are often accompanied by power games and interest distribution issues.

Today's learning activities helped me a lot, especially the group discussion, which helped me digest the theoretical knowledge better. However, the time allocation between discussion and explanation in class may need to be further optimized. I am still not very clear about the details of how the interests of all parties are specifically coordinated in the governance structure, and I hope that future courses can explore this issue in depth.

Today's tutorial taught me three key points. First, financing is crucial for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and climate action, especially in addressing global climate change and narrowing the development gap. In addition, there are significant gaps in international cooperation, especially North-South cooperation, especially in terms of rich countries fulfilling their climate finance commitments. Although climate finance has reached a record high, there is still a large funding gap from the 1.5°C scenario required by the Paris Agreement.

Today's learning activities were very helpful, especially in deepening my understanding of global climate finance when analyzing specific cases and reports. However, I think that if more interactive sessions were added to the class, students might have a better understanding of the complex financing mechanism. I am still not very clear about how to track and evaluate the effectiveness of the use of these funds in practice.

In preparation for the Global Climate Action Summit this week, as China's representative, I learned a lot about the complexity and challenges of global climate change negotiations. First, the interests of countries in addressing climate change are very different, especially the priorities of developing and developed countries are very different. Through interactions with other countries, I learned the importance of negotiation in reaching a global consensus, especially when balancing the interests of all parties. In addition, although all countries recognize the seriousness of global warming, there are still great differences in specific actions.

This learning activity was very useful. It allowed me to experience the actual situation of climate negotiations through simulated negotiations. Adding more background information and real cases may help students better understand the real positions of various countries. What I am still confused about is how to balance development and climate action on a global scale, especially how developing countries like China should play a greater role in the international climate framework.

This week's sustainable cities and climate change topic taught me several key points. First, cities play a dual role in global climate change, both as a major source of greenhouse gas emissions and as drivers of innovation and sustainable development. Cities in developed countries are relatively backward in reducing their carbon footprint, while cities in developing countries face many challenges in the process of rapid urbanization. I also learned that good urban governance is essential to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially in improving climate resilience and adaptation. The negative impact of urbanization on the environment can be reduced through urban planning, green buildings, and infrastructure investment.

This learning activity was helpful for me to understand the connection between cities and climate change, but adding more case studies may better help us understand how different cities cope with these challenges in practice. I am still confused about how cities can find a balance between rapid development and environmental protection, especially when resources are limited.

In the eighth week of learning, I have a deeper understanding of nature-based solutions (NbS). First, NbS uses the power of nature to address global challenges such as water shortages, climate change, and biodiversity crises, and emphasizes the key role of ecosystems in solving these problems. NbS is not just about protecting and restoring nature, but also about how to respond to the negative impacts of climate change by improving the resilience of ecosystems, especially in the global South. The concept of rewilding also made me realize that by restoring the original ecological process, humans can reduce interference with the ecosystem and promote the reconstruction of ecological balance.

This week's learning activities were very valuable and helped me gain a comprehensive understanding of how to respond to climate change through ecological protection and restoration. However, I am still a little confused about how to effectively promote these measures in different social and economic contexts, and I hope that future courses will explore this more.

This week's learning allowed me to focus on the vulnerability of small island developing states (SIDS) to climate change and their response measures. Due to their geographical isolation, limited resources and high dependence on imports, SIDS are particularly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, such as sea level rise and natural disasters. Due to their small economic scale and lack of technology and funds, these countries face huge challenges in climate adaptation planning and implementation. Although the international community has pledged to provide climate finance and assistance to SIDS, actual actions are still limited.

This week's learning activities gave me a deep understanding of the inequality in global climate action, especially the unique challenges faced by SIDS. However, I am still confused about how to promote climate finance flows more effectively at the international level, especially how to ensure that these funds are truly used to improve the climate resilience and sustainable development of SIDS.

In the tenth week of learning, we explored the relationship between climate change and security, especially the far-reaching impact of climate change on global security and human development. By analyzing climate security, I learned how climate change exacerbates resource competition, leads to intensified conflicts, and poses new challenges to national and international governance. We also discussed the relationship between climate change and gender security, revealing the different impacts of the climate crisis on different gender groups. In addition, Australia's climate security policy was discussed in detail, which made me realize the country's initiatives and challenges in addressing climate security issues.

This week's learning activities were very helpful, especially through specific case analysis and data charts, we were able to better understand the complex impact of climate change on the global security landscape. However, I am still uncertain about how to achieve effective climate security governance and cooperation on a global scale.

In the 11th week of the course, I learned the importance of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially how to address global challenges through systemic changes. This week's content focuses on understanding the concept of "stubborn problems", that is, when dealing with complex issues such as sustainable development and climate change, there are many conflicting goals and interests, so the solution is not simple and direct. Through this study, I realized that policy making, social change and global cooperation play a vital role in promoting SDGs and addressing climate change.

Systemic change was also discussed as one of the key ways to achieve social transformation, especially in response to the global climate crisis, changing the current economic and social structure is necessary to promote sustainable development. Individuals can also play a role in addressing these global issues, such as promoting collective action by raising public awareness and advocating sustainable lifestyles. In addition, these learning activities helped me understand more clearly the importance of global cooperation and citizen action in achieving SDGs. At the same time, I also realized that there are still many areas that need to be explored and improved in the future.

At the International Climate Summit in Week 6, we witnessed the complexity of global climate action negotiations, especially the challenges in reaching the goal of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius. Through this summit, I have a deeper understanding of the difficulties of collective action and how difficult it is to coordinate the global response to climate change.

The core of the collective action problem is that countries and organizations need to act for the common good, but the self-interest of individuals or countries often conflicts with collective goals. Mancur Olson's theory mentions that to solve collective action problems, it is usually necessary to promote cooperation through selective incentives, such as additional rewards or penalties for non-participants. However, the complexity of climate action lies in the fact that global climate governance involves multiple interests and lacks an effective international regulatory mechanism to ensure that all parties truly fulfill their commitments. In the literature, Barnett (2020) pointed out that wealthy countries bear greater historical responsibility for climate change, but they are generally unable to provide sufficient financial and technical support, which exacerbates the inequality of global climate justice.

In addition, Parks (2021) further emphasized that small island countries and poor countries are often at a disadvantage in climate negotiations, even though they are the main victims of climate change. The "prisoner's dilemma" model of game theory shows that even if cooperation is beneficial to all countries, countries may still choose not to cooperate for short-term interests. At the summit, the differences between different countries on specific actions were particularly obvious, especially on the allocation of funds and emission reduction commitments. These discussions gave me a further understanding of the challenges in global cooperation.

Overall, the collective action problems facing global climate governance are multi-level, involving not only conflicts of interest between countries, but also how to resolve free-riding behavior, establish effective incentive mechanisms, and ensure long-term global cooperation. The International Climate Summit clearly revealed these challenges and also showed that future climate action needs to find a balance between justice, cooperation and responsibility distribution.

Reference:

1.
