George and Lennie have a really complicated relationship. George takes care of Lennie because he's a bit mentally challenged so he's a lot of work. Their relationship is a bit forced because when his aunt Clara died, George didn't really have a choice to take him in because of how Lennie is mentally challenged.

Quote: If I was a relative of yours I'd shoot myself. (p.24). In this quote we can see how George get's a bit annoyed with Lennie.

When his Aunt Clara died, Lennie just come along with me out workin(p.40). In this quote we can see how George took Lennie with him after his aunt died so it wasn't really his choice.

african-american vs white, more african-american are unemployed, the african-american are also treated poorly compared to the white. For example, Crooks is the only black person in the book and he gets treated bad from curlys wife and also his coworker.

Quote:
Cause I'm black. They play cards in there, but I can't play because I'm black. (p.68) So we can see how the coworkers don't want Crooks in the bunkhouse because he's black and they also don't want to hang out with him.

You know what I could do to you if you open your trap. (p.80) In this quote we can see how Curleys wife treats Crooks (she only treats him like this because he's black, she doesn't treats the other worker like that).
