their friends separately insist they have found “the perfect” person for each of them. neither realises they’re being set up with each other until they arrive at the restaurant. they already know, and despise, each other. rather than giving their friends satisfaction, they decide to stay for dinner. it becomes three hours of arguing, competitive drinking, stealing food off each other’s plates, and accidentally having the best date either has had in years. they agree to never speak of it again. then he texts her the next morning: “same time next friday?”.

they’re sent on a work trip together after spending years competing for the same promotion. the hotel has screwed up the reservation. one room. one bed. neither will admit defeat and sleep on the floor. what begins as an aggressive negotiated pillow border becomes late night conversations in the dark, and waking up considerably closer together than either remembers falling asleep.

she moves into the apartment next door. within 48 hours, they’re at war. his music is too loud. she steals his parking space. his packages keep arriving at her door. she leaves passive aggressive notes. he corrects her grammar on them. their feud becomes so elaborate that the entire building is invested. somewhere between sabotaging each other’s laundry schedules and arguing over who gets the elevator first, they start bringing each other coffee.

she’s maid of honour. he’s the best man. she has spreadsheets, schedules and emergency kits. he believes weddings should “just happen naturally”. she wants to strangle him before rehearsal dinner. then the bride and the groom start having doubts, leaving the two people who hate each other responsible for keeping the wedding from imploding. Cue cake disasters, drunk relatives, missing rings, dancing practice, and an accidental kiss they both insist was caused by stress.

they meet during a chaotic vacation, spend one drunken night together, and wake up legally married. she’s horrified. he finds the situation significantly funnier. they immediately arrange an annulment- only to discover there’s some bureaucratic reason it can’t happen any time soon. so they’re stuck being technically married for several weeks. the running gag is that they become weirdly domestic before they have even had a second date.

he’s exceptionally good at ending relationships. his friends friends actually ask him to help write breakup texts because he’s detached, practical, and convinced love is mostly inconvenience with good marketing. she’s the opposite- hopelessly romantic and running some kind of matchmaking/dating-advice side hustle. a mutual friend challenges them: she has one month to prove she can find his perfect match. he agrees because he’s certain she’ll fail. she takes him on increasingly ridiculous “practice dates” to figure out what he likes. eventually she finds the perfect woman for him. unfortunately, by then he wants the matchmaker.

they’ve been talking online for months after meeting through shared interest. neither has technically lied about who they are- they simply never exchanged photos or full names. when they finally meet, she discovers her wonderful online friend is the asshole she regularly argues with in real life. she immediately wants to leave. he thinks it’s the funniest thing that’s ever happened to him. neither can reconcile the person they adore online with the person they want to throttle offline.

their marriage ended quickly and spectacularly. a year later, they’re doing great separately and can finally laugh about what a disaster they were. their friends convince them to throw a ridiculous joint “divorce anniversary” party. they get drunk. they hook up. both wake up horrified. they agree it meant absolutely nothing. then it happens again. and again.

essentially: two idiots accidentally fixing their marriage after already divorcing.

their families merge two enormous business empires through marriage. the problem? they’ve despised each other since they were teenagers. so they make rules: separate bedrooms, separate lives, lovers allowed, public affection strictly for appearances, and divorce the moment the agreed period ends. easy. until she comes home at 3am wearing another man’s jacket. suddenly, her husband- who supposedly couldn’t care less who she sleeps with, has a surprising number of opinions.

ten years ago, his family worked for hers. her father destroyed his father’s reputation after discovering something he shouldn’t have, leaving the family penniless. now he’s richer than the people who ruined him. and her family’s empire is collapsing. he offers to save it under one condition: she marries him. she believes she’s a collateral in his revenge against her father. what she doesn’t know is that she’s the only member of the family he never actually wanted to revenge on.

she’s spent years trying to put him behind bars. he’s spent years making sure she never manages it. then someone inside the law enforcement puts a price on her head after she gets too close to uncovering a corruption network. the only person who realises what happening soon enough to save her? the criminal she’s been prosecuting. now she’s hidden in one of his safe houses while insisting she’ll arrest him the second this is over. his response is basically: sure, sweetheart.

note: this one could have amazing banter because neither should ever become morally stupid for the other. she still thinks he’s a criminal. he still thinks her belief in the justice system is adorable.

she becomes the first woman in years to secure a permanent seat, except she takes the seat he believed was promised to his protégé/best friend. he thinks she’s a publicity stunt. she thinks he’s an entitled asshole who can’t handle being challenged by a woman. the team starts falling apart, and they’re forced to cooperate to have any kind chance for the constructors’ championship.

the fun part: hostile press conferences, deliberately refusing team orders, one-two finishes where they won’t even look at each other on the podium, accidental touches while reviewing telemetry, defending each other to journalists while still insisting they hate each other privately. and, naturally, “if you ever scar me like that in a crash again, i’ll kill you myself.”

her brother and him have one of the ugliest rivalries on the grid. she travels with her brother frequently and has spent years hearing exactly what an arrogant, reckless bastard the other driver is. unfortunately, she meets him without realising who he is. they have one incredible night. then she walks into a paddock the next morning and sees him standing beside the car her brother wants to put through a wall. neither intends for there to be a second night. there are, in fact, many second nights.

not teammates. actual championship rivals. they’re fighting for the same title all season, and the media absolutely feeds their hatred. every incident becomes international news. every interview gets dissected. then they start sleeping together. no relationship. no feelings. no mercy on track. which works beautifully until they’re separated by three championship points with two races remaining and both realise falling in love with the person whose dream requires destroying yours is considerably less sexy in practice.

note: this one could hurt so good because neither should sacrifice the championship for the other.

after a horrific crash, he’s rushed into surgery and she happens to be the surgeon who saves him. his recovery could take months, and she’s the one person completely unimpressed by his fame, his money, or desperate insistence that’s he’s getting back into the car early. he hates her because she might be the person who ends his career. she hates him because he treats his own body like something disposable.

bonus if he eventually returns to racing and she realises she’s absolutely fucking terrified every time he gets into the car.

her roommate warns her immediately: stay away from him. he’s gorgeous, charming, allergic to commitment, and notorious around campus. she isn’t interested anyway. unfortunately, he starts spending ridiculous amounts of time at their apartment because he’s close friends with her roommate. she treats him like furniture. he becomes fascinated because his usual flirting gets absolutely nowhere. eventually he stops trying to sleep with her and starts simply… hanging out with her. which is precisely when she develops a problem.

his teammates notice that there’s one girl on campus who seems completely immune to him. so, naturally, somebody makes a stupid bet that he can’t get her to agree to a date. she eventually does. except he realises almost immediately that he genuinely likes her and quietly backs out of the bet. months later, when they’re actually together, she finds out how their first date happened. suddenly he has to convince her that while the beginning was bullshit, everything afterwards wasn’t.

his reputation is becoming a problem with scouts/sponsors/coaches after one too many campus scandals. his solution is catastrophically simple: ask the woman who everyone already trusts around him to pretend they’re together. she’s been his friend since freshman year and knows exactly how full of shit he is. she agrees with conditions. then they become too convincing. holding hands become automatic. she starts sitting with the hockey girlfriends at games. he kisses her forehead without remembering anyone is watching. and when another player starts flirting with her, he discovers fake boyfriends apparently experience very real jealousy.

they meet at a party, have spectacular chemistry, and agree it’s a one-night thing. perfect. until monday morning, when she walks into class and discovers he’s her new project partner for the entire semester. they agree to behave like adults and pretend nothing happened. they’re terrible at it. especially because he keeps casually mentioning things from that night just to make her lose her train of thought.

after being dumped by her long-term boyfriend, she drunkenly creates a list of everything she never did because she was always in a relationship: go dancing alone, kiss a stranger, get a ridiculous tattoo, attend a hockey party, take an impulsive road trip, have a casual hookup. a hockey player she vaguely knows accidentally finds the list. instead of mocking her, he volunteers to help her complete it. there’s one condition: she can’t fall in love with him. she laughs because he’s absolutely not her type. famous last words.

she’s being positioned to become one of the youngest department heads in the hospital’s history. then the hospital owner’s son suddenly returns from abroad and joins the executive board. she assumes he’s an incompetent nepo baby. he assumes she’s sleeping her way into his father’s favour because someone deliberately feeds him that rumour. they immediately despise each other. meanwhile, patients being dying after seemingly routine procedures, and evidence starts pointing towards her. he’s eventually the first person to realise someone is framing her.

they’re both brilliant, arrogant and convinced the other is reckless. she thinks he treats the ER like his personal kingdom. he thinks she forgets patients are people once they’re on the operating table. they’re constantly fighting over cases. then a mass casualty event forces them to work together for hours without stopping, and they discover that professionally they’re almost disturbingly compatible.

originally, she’s part of the plan. he gets close because he needs access to her friend group. maybe on of her friends is his actual target, or perhaps her family is connected to whatever motivates his killings. dating her is supposed to make everything easier. except six months later he’s hopelessly in love with her. now his accomplice wants to continue with their original plan- including killing her during the finale. he refuses. suddenly ghostface has a problem considerably worse than the police: the second ghostface knows his weakness. she therefore experiences something completely confusing. ghostface attacks everyone around her but repeatedly seems to spare her. until one night another ghostface attacks her for real… and her boyfriend arrives suspiciously quickly to save her.

she begins noticing that every person ghostface kills has one thing in common: they’ve hurt her. the ex who abused her. the friend who betrayed her. the professor who ruined an opportunity for her. the stranger who assaulted her at a party. at first, the connections are loose enough that nobody notices. then ghostface kills someone only she and her boyfriend know had hurt her. that’s when suspicion starts creeping in. her boyfriend is meanwhile wonderful to her. almost unnervingly wonderful. he never controls where she goes, doesn’t isolate her, doesn’t treat her badly. his violence exists entirely outside of their relationship. in his mind, there’s no contradiction whatsoever. he loves her. therefore, he removes people who hurt her. the eventual confrontation isn’t “ghostface wants to kill me.” it’s her realising: “you killed them because of me.” and him answering: “no. i killed them because of what they did to you.”

he’s obsessed with horror movies and wants to create the perfect ghostface story. and every ghostface story needs a final girl. so he chooses his girlfriend. not to kill her. to make her one. he engineers the entire massacre around her while pretending to survive it beside her. he determines who dies, when she’s attacked, which clues she discovers and even when he’s conveniently “injured”. he’s effectively directing her horror movie without her realising she’s starring in it. except somewhere along the way his original fascination becomes genuine love. during the planned finale, he’s supposed to reveal himself. he can’t do it. so they “survive” ghostface together.
