         <description><![CDATA[<div>Athens became a democracy around 500 B.C.E. but only only free men were allowed to be citizens. All men over the age of 18 were born in Athens were citizens women and slaves were not allowed to be citizens. Sparta's government was much different than Athens it was an oligarchy. An oligarchy meant the ruling power was in the hands of only a few people.similar to Athens Sparta also had an assembly but the important decisions were made by a group called the council of elders.   </div>]]></description>

Athens was located near the sea and was able to trade with other city states. Sparta economy depended on conquering other people and farming Sparta's land wasn't enough to feed all of its people Almost all of the spartan spent their lives as warriors Sparta used slaves to produce their goods.  </div>]]></description>
