In the city of confusion the newly elected mayor wants to make a new ‘social contract’ between young people, youth NGOs and the local authorities. The reason is that the city is facing quite a few challenges and the mayor wants to involve the young people in public life and get the support of youth NGOs. Therefore he is asking for a meeting with young people and youth NGOs that are active in the city. Your task is to formulate – from your group’s perspective – what you would need in order to be able to solve the problem(s). Later on you will have the chance to present your needs to the other two actors. Your task is to negotiate with the two other actors until you find a common agreement on how to deal with the problem and who does what.

Educational

The school curriculum is fixed by the national government. Young people are asking for alternative teaching methods and more space for extra-curricular activities. Specifically they are asking for more non-formal education methods. The local municipality manages the school together with the parents of the school students.

Setting up a youth club

In confusion city there is no youth club providing space for activities, Internet access and socialising and leisure time activities. There are only some local cafeterias where the young people hang around

-We should collaborate with the local cafes and try to organize different activities that young people find interest. For example Karaoke Night, Board Games...

-Create a friendly and safe space where other youths can share their ideas and participate.

Young people need classes or organised activities that target their interests. There should be more options for young people when they try to discover new passions or try to develop skills they would need for future jobs
The local authorities together with the NGOs should organise collaborative events and workshops that better fit the educational need of the youth.
We are willing to let go a few after-school hours, but would also like to negotiate that these workshops would be integrated into the already existing school programs.

From the other two groups we could ask for promotion, so that we could jump-start with more members. We may also ask for a space in which the club meetings will take place

Necessary training for new generation communication and working tools and instructors. In addition, location arranging and coordination. We can make progress here by getting support to establish a youth zone in a central area that all young people can access.
