The U.S. was also already a trading partner with Hawaii so they didn't have to annex them for trading rights. Hawaii's perspective:
Sugar planters overthrew their ruling family which angered the Hawaiian people, for taking them over without their government consent . Nevertheless 
Hawaiian's  also wanted independence and didn't want to get over taken by the U.S.
