https://padlet.com/cindy_zahn/5xzx9mfosr9q Your brief description:) en-us 2017-06-18 22:32:47 UTC 2022-07-20 22:51:11 UTC hello@padlet.com cassiesuerussell https://padlet.com/cindy_zahn/5xzx9mfosr9q/wish/2239898486 Guided reading is a chance to work with small groups and help them learn reading skills.  Students are grouped based on their current skills.  The teacher builds on those skills whether is is letter and sounds at Pre-A level or sight words, directionality, and use of strategies to figure out unknown words in levels A-C.  Teachers need to keep a close eye on how students are performing and continually reassess their skills so they can be put in the appropriate groups and learn skills they are ready for.  I worked with several guided reading groups K-2 this year that followed the lesson plans in the textbook very closely.  The repetition seems to be the key to helping students learn new words and skills and become confident readers.

It includes small group and instruction. Teachers use intentional reading instruction and texts that are a little difficult for students, allowing them to learn new skills and strategies.

It helps the teacher prepare for the next steps students will take towards reading proficiency.

The small group model allows students to be taught in a way that is intended to be more focused on their specific needs, accelerating their progress. The one-on-one is important for both students and teachers. Teachers are better able to assess what the students need directly and then be able to provide. Students will be able to seek more knowledge with one-on-one time allowing for further growth.
