This was a classroom setting in the ASU music building, the desks were in rows, all facing the front board where most of the examples were shown. At the front of the room was also a piano to guide the students.

I consider this a learning environment because it is where education takes place in the common setting of school.

The culture of this classroom had formal norms, close teacher to student relationships, and had a strong belief that learning is a process that people take at different paces.

1. All of the students raised their hand and waited to be called on, as opposed to calling out randomly in a casual setting.
2. The students were able to address the teacher by their first name and were comfortable asking for deeper explanations when they were confused.
3. The teacher was consistent with letting people know they were on the right or wrong track, and helped them accordingly.

All of these pieces of evidence show how the culture of the classroom was formal, intimate, and attentive.

One concept of hidden curriculum was that making mistakes is a part of learning and is not bad.

1. During the lesson, when asked to do the rhythm, the students did it loudly and very incorrectly. They were not afraid to make that mistake because they knew they learned from it.
2. When the mistakes were addressed, the teacher asked if the students understood what they missed instead of shaming them for being wrong.
3. The students were encouraged to share their work on the board for the class to see. They then helped each other correct each others mistakes to learn from each other as well.
