I envisioned for my self portrait to colourful and cool, which i achieved through my use of contrast of colours, especially between the print and the background. I did not have a vision on what the final product would be. However, I was thinking of going with the flow which is quite symbolic because it describes me constantly evolving which can be referenced in the title. The colour schemes are based on contrasts to describe the constant change and conflict. It is also to illustrate that the quote "conflict breeds catastrophe" is not true as in this case it has created a masterpiece in my not so humble opinion. The most interesting of my methods is to actually like customise the canvas which again is a revolution in this classroom environment. My favourite artist is Andy Warhol because of his modern style which is cool. He also made a lot of money. I think that creating self portraits are more vain than actual selfies. This is due to the fact that self-potraits stand out in a crowd of selfies showing the extent of the "Do it DIFFERENT" movements that have sprung up. The vivid yellow color contrasts with the bold combination if magenta and turquoise. The background highlights the portrait and adds a sense of energy to the piece as a whole.

I tried to combine the 2 colors available- turquoise and magenta, to create this neon like color. The portrait has a sense of seriousness, and signifies the thinking process of the human species, to advance through the development of civilisation. Despite this, the bright yellow background symbolises the nature of humans, a vivid and lively color as we still retain the curiosity and inquisitiveness as we explore worlds and realms unknown to us. 

I like Vincent van gogh. He makes really good art and allows us to think and see events in different perspectives, and despite being poor, he strives to create art that would remain famous and inspirations to potential artists in the future. 

No i dont think selfies are equivalent to self portraits. Many a times, we cant see the interior motives or personalities of people by just looking at there exterior appearances. Self portraits are very good exhibitions of a persons self image and shows how they want to appear to others. Selfies, however, are just a show if a persons superficial looks and appearances. We cant see what he or she is like psychologically and how the person acts in real life. Through self portraits, many elements like color, texture, design can all tell what kind of a person the depicted person

In my self-portrait, I envisioned myself to seem bored or uninterested, which i feel came across very well with the usage of bright colours to contrast my expression. The usage of the bright colours gives a lively feel to it which is sharply contrasted with the facial expression. I carved over multiple times after each draft in order to achieve a smooth look. I also drew lines parallel to my face in order to produce an aura. I call my self-portrait “The Ling Chuan Military Administration”. To be honest, I didn’t really have much expectations for my painting and didn’t exactly have anything specific planned for it. I kind of just tried anything that came to my mind. The patterns I chose were straight lines running diagonally across a white background. I decided against printing it on any coloured backgrounds as that may hinder the whole facade of the portrait. The colours I chose were generally lighter and would be more distinctly presented 
against a white background. I chose this cool, albeit rather queer, name because I felt the straight rigid and bold lines running through the page really evokes a feel of stringent discipline and military precision. I also felt the random splotches of paint, instead of marring the portrait, contributes to the broken, war-torn feel that my portrait should have emitted. I don’t exactly have a favourite artist, I don’t think I’ve ever had much taste in art and probably couldn’t tell between good and bad art. However, I still do believe in the importance of self-portraits and it’s potential ability to allow for effective expression of oneself. Although selfies are essentially self-portraits except on a far more vivid and detailed level, I feel that in some ways they are still far inferior to self-portraits. As the name suggests, selfies compare of pictures on oneself, and though detailed flawlessly, only captures the outer facade of a person. A self-portrait however, is capable of capturing the very Essence and personality of a person. With such a diverse colour range to choose from, a person’s full inner self can be portrayed accurately, at least to some extent. I believe a self-portrait has the potential to express one’s emotions .

The turquoise colour represents life and the natural order of things. The red represents the evil of mankind and the black represents the death that follows. I printed myself with such colours as i too am human.
I made a couple of drafts to get rid of the uncarved area. I expected my carving to be better but my reckless carving caused a lot of time and effort to be wasted. it also caused my carving to have multiple holes, although this did not affect the final product, it was still unsightly. On one side of the photo, my portrait is blue (brightness)in colour and the background(darkness)is black, showing that even the darkest of times, people can still be bright. However, in the other side, the background is red while the person is black, showing that even in the happiest and vibrant times, there will still be sadness. Here I made use of color and texture to convey my message. The outlines of my face is printed in blue - which symbolizes peace and calm. On the other hand, the red underlayer represents anger and violence.

Additionally, the blue background is seemingly random and filled with lines in all directions - giving one a sense of chaos.

In the end, what I would like to convey is that no matter how composed or quiet a person may seem to be (the blue outline) on the outside, even keeping his cool in situations where feelings are high (the chaotic backdrop), we all have that demon within us that will be unleashed should a certain threshold to our tolerance be crossed (red underlayer).

Overally, my product did not turn out as nice as I would have liked it to - I wanted the lines to be more defined, as well as have more control over the shade of blue to better convey the calm affect. A smudge of purple. A dash of sky blue, and a black, skull-like silhouette. what seems to be a torn and tattered hazmat mask now hangs mutilated on my face. The black background represents the dark history of nuclear warfare and how it has affected many people across many countries in the world. The jagged lines across the portrait show both the mental and physical wounds of people who have suffered. However, the white edges of the photo represent hope; that the people would recover and pick themselves up from the debris. Hence, i coined the name 'radioactive?' with a question mark instead of a definite 'radioactive' to show that all was not lost. I chose a mixture of blue and red as they symbolise blueness and redness which are very contrasting which reflects how contrast can be used in art to a very good effect. Red signifies passion and love, and blue signifies confidence, suggesting that i am confident of my passion and love for art. Furthermore, blue also has connotations of intelligence, suggesting that i man sure and confident of my suanness in art. I also drew cards as i like cards. The portrayal of myself as being surrounded by cards shows that i am caught in a situation, further emphasised by how the colours i used, red and blue are conflicting suggesting a sense of internal conflict i have. This is also exemplified by how red is a very strong emotional colour, showing how i may get emotional in times and have some internal conflict at times. However, despite the conflict i have, life is about how i deal with it, and not what life gives me.
