Their father's death made a huge impact on their lives and has turned them into very miss behaved children. Not only that, but she is traumatized ever since her husband's death and tries her best to keep going with her life for the sake of her children.

Living without her dad has always been a struggle and now that he has a new wife and kids she feels nervous. She is really sad and she has to hold it in because she doesn't want her family to see.

Her daughter is leaving her for the summer and she is sad and she doesn't know if to tell or not.

However, she realizes she needs to put up with her problematic cousins and her emotional aunt.  She takes this trip as an opportunity to get out of her hometown, and also help out her family.  At last, she is able to guide her cousins into the right path and gives her aunt strength. Not only was she able to deal with their problems, but she helped herself and turned into a stronger person.

Not only that, but she was able to help gain strength to keep going, and helped her find reasons to smile in her life. Now that she has found Micheal she needs to find the courage to tell Robin. Karen is happy with Micheal and she wants Robin to react the same way.

Wittlinger writes, " 'I don't know what I'm going to do when you're gone.' " (Wittlinger, 11).  Robin tried to use the excuse that she would be sad if Chris left. It didn't work though and Chris ended up leaving.
 
 However, even though Chris left, they did something. Wittlinger explains, "I figured I might as well sit on the toilet lid and write Chris a letter" (Wittlinger, 73). Robin and Chris both agreed to send letters to each other because the wanted to stay in touch. Chris was able to leave to Washington D.C. and he even ended on good terms with Robin. Despite the fact that it was going to be hard Robin tried her best to be happy. She and Chris ended on good terms. Even though the first time things didn't work she tried again and succeeded.
