Discourse analysis is a research method for studying written or spoken language.
If we ask how we make sense of what we read , how we understand speakers who communicate more than they say, and how we take part in a conversation making use of aspects like coherence, cohesion, background information, schema...etc, we're undertaking what is know as discourse analysis. S.R

Personally, I would like to say that this topic was really interesting to me. It is because of the fact that it studies written and spoken material in relation to its social context as well as it aims to understand how language is used in real life situations. It was also relevant to realize how our values, beliefs and assumptions are taken into account as communicating and how language use reflects our social and historical context.
Teran, Ariadna Celeste

We have to consider context in order to understand how it affects meaning but we also use our background knowledge to arrive interpretations. Humans have the urgency of making sense of what they hear or read. When speaking, listening, reading or writing, a person will need an structure which help us to communicate effectively. In conclusion, discourse analysis takes into account how we arrive to interpretations. B. M.

I think the study of discourse analysis was a really interesting and important topic to learn because it helps us to realise how strongly the context and culture influence our understanding of the language. By taking a look at this topic we also lean four important elements that have to be present in a conversation in order for it to serve our purpose.
