Symptoms can appear in different ways. You may have a bump come up but then it becomes infected. You notice that it has become warm to touch, swollen, red, painful, and it may even have pus. You can also have a fever with MRSA. The symptoms may vary depending on which part of the body it is on.

WASH YOUR HANDS, WASH YOUR HANDS, WASH YOUR HANDS! Good hand hygiene one of the top ways of preventing the spread of MRSA. If you have a cut or wound, keep it covered until healed to prevent bacteria from getting in. Do not share razors, towels or other personal items with others. If you notice an area beginning to look infected, go to the doctor!

Luckily there are still antibiotics that can be used to treat MRSA. If you have a severe infection, Intravenous antibiotics may be used. Often times by mouth antibiotics are sufficient. In some cases, no medications may be needed if the area is small enough. The doctor may be able to perform an incision and drainage which is just cutting it open and allowing the infection to drain out.

MRSA is an infection caused by a particular bacteria that is resistant to many antibiotics. Staph lives naturally in our body. But if staph gets into an open wound or cut, it can cause infection. Unfortunately, MRSA has adapted to many antibiotics and those are no longer effective for the treatment of MRSA.
