Hazel (and her parents) talked with Dr. Maria if she could go to Amsterdam. Dr. Maria allowed it but only with an adult intimately familiar, which more or less meant her mother.
At home she wanted to take a nap but instead of sleeping she replayed the whole picnic with Augustus. She couldn’t stop thinking about the little moment when she’d tensed up as he touched her. The gentle familiarity felt wrong for her. Because she wasn’t sure what she felt she called Kaitlyn. While Hazel listened to Kaitlyn she realized that she didn’t have a premonition of hurting him. She had a postmonition.
After a while it was time for dinner. Her shoulder hurt and she had a headache. Because there had not been an earthquake anywhere her parents asked her if everything is okay and stuff like this. Her mother thought that something with Hazel wasn’t right. So she asked again what was wrong. Hazel answered that she was a grenade and she was going to blow up and she would like to minimize the casualties. After she told this she went to her room and read some comments of another cancer girl who died. During read this things she realised that to be with Augustus was to hurt him. She decided to text him and explain him the whole thing and that they couldn’t be together. She hoped that he understood and he understood that.
...
At four in the morning she awoke with an apocalyptic pain fingering out from the center of her head.
