These qualities of my school mirror a church perfectly, however, I think there are other ways that my school acts as a church for students that are much more impactful because it's influence is not as direct of an attempt. For example, for awareness days such as #BellLetsTalk, my school really promotes the inclusivity of days like these. My school uses these opportunities to bring in how God is with us through all of our struggles and since we are all children of God, we should all be there for eachother too. In a very much more relatable and subtle way, while bringing awareness to important issues, my school also uses them to bring God's stories into our everyday life. Since God doesn't commonly get brought up through the course work of any class but religion, and religioin class can seem very pressured, this is a more successful way that my school becomes a church for students in our everyday lifes. Furthermore, my school is definately a community. We are a small uniform school and the staff really enforce our uniform so that everyone wears it proudly, as a sign of belonging. As students, we all know and are confident that our administrators, teachers, and church community are there for our guidance and we are able to take advantage of it when we need it. Our school provides us with any type of help to rely on that we may need and the support staff makes us feel as if that they are helping us because they want to, not because they have to. We only integrate religion into religion courses so a small chunk of our time getting Catholic High School education is dedicated to Catholicity. If we put a Catholic view on everything we did and tried to go through the whole school day through the lens of God we would resemble a church much closer. Despite that, as students I feel like that would feel too pressured to devote themselves to religion and it would turn students away from wanting to be open to God's teaching. Also my school could resemble a church more closely if we had a consistent priest. Every mass our priest is different and although it is nice to get the wisdom and teaching styles from different priests, it does not build the same relationship as it does in church. In churches there is commonly a consistent priest who you are able to become close and comfortable exploring your faith with and if my school were to be more consistent in that way, it would build the same trust and resemble a church.

Because I attend a catholic school, we do attend church every so often, but we also have regular prayer in the morning. When we pray in the morning, we do not just say a quick "Our Father", but we also pray for people struggling in our communities or even in the world. Our prayers are often done by different students or teachers, resembling readings or petitions at church. Besides praying, my school also participates in days that support the people struggling such as "Pink Day" for bullying, "Relay for Life" for those who have / have had cancer and even "Crazy Sock Day" just recently for those with mental illness'. Days like this are similar to days at church because they are inclusive to everybody and have a main goal of achieving the greater good. Finally, my school is an extremely welcoming and safe environment just like a church. Our school community resembles a church community. Teachers, administrators and even youth ministers act as leaders who teach us values not only in religion class. Students and parents act as the students of the leaders who take in what they have learned and forward it to all and set an example to our peers. I find that my school, as well with many other schools, only really remind us of how we should act when something like a school shooting or suicide happens. School communities should constantly be having grade level meetings even if short, just to remind us of our values and congratulate us on the good we have done, not just when we have done something wrong or if something happens. I think that we get so caught up in getting good grades and passing our courses that we, at times, forget about our values. Even teachers that have never taught religion, like math or science teachers should be teaching us about the expectations within the school. Of course, students make up the majority of the school population and have a large impact on what a regular day looks like at St. James. To further resemble a church, students should be respectful to all other students and staff because bullying and exclusion does happen, whether we know it or not. The pope makes a point about the sick and the poor needing help from the wealthy and although highschool environment less focus around money and power, I do think the leaders in the school find the students who maybe don’t go out as much or don’t find it as easy to make new friends and help them out.
