Don’t assume that everything works for everybody. Build rapport. Get to know your students individually so that you know what works for them when they’re having a challenging time. Maintain consistency, set expectations for your students, and practice accountability.

Dear Janine,

You had good intentions but don’t ever think you are the master of it all. Learn to ignore behaviors and acknowledge and praise the positive behaviors. Find your strong voice and command the room to regain your students. Have a parent conference and get the bigger picture if possible! Also, keep Courtney busy! Idle time = destructive time. Give her a job or a responsibility and help her understand that she can lose the job due to her negative behaviors.
