They implemented a distributed, leadership five-year plan to focus on ‘teaching and learning; culture, climate and community; leadership, management, and governance; and facilities and technology” (Williams, 2022, para. 3). The district embraced change by pivoting their long-term plan and involving all stakeholders in the decision-making process. They prioritized supporting teachers through stress prevention and relief measures, and they focused on the holistic well-being of students by incorporating social-emotional learning and mental health support. Finally, the superintendent emphasized the importance of choosing joy as a leader and creating moments of optimism and resilience. The leadership skills demonstrated include resilience, flexibility and agility, and optimism.

This allows them to remain agile, make informed decisions, and find innovative solutions to address emerging issues, ultimately fostering a resilient and successful educational environment.

    Educational leadership and instructional leadership are both vital components of effective school leadership. While educational leadership focuses on the broader vision and direction of the school, instructional leadership hones in on the improvement of teaching and learning practices. Both forms of leadership are interdependent; balancing and integrating these two aspects is essential for creating a school environment that fosters continuous improvement and supports the academic success of all students.
