         <title>Radio</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The radio I think was maybe the first device that allowed educators to give satellite classes that had no instructor in the room. Now there are a bunch of problems that could arise but 2 really come to mind. First off is communication of students in the satellite room with the teacher. How would students ask questions? Without that face to face interaction this must of been an issue. Perhaps a phone line with both ends on speaker could have been used.<br><br>Another issue I think could have happened with radio in the classroom would have been attendance. To make sure students didn't leave you would need someone in the room. Why not just have a teacher in that case? Interesting question I am sure teachers and administrators were asking in the 1920s.<br><br>I think there was probably a lot of good it did. The radio allowed for classes to be broadcast for miles and people could tune in and get a free lesson!<br><br>Tech Example: Calculator!</div>]]></description>

         <title>Calculator</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The calculator is a great invention that I am thankful for every time I go shopping. In the classroom, however, I think it may be somewhat of a challenge when it comes to cheating on math tests. I teach elementary, so, I don't see it much but perhaps in the upper grade levels. Rather than do the work of solving the problem, students may just want to put it into the calculator and get the answer without showing how to get to it.&nbsp;<br><br>Though in the real world I do use a calculator for daily tasks, I still know in my head what steps to take to get to the answer, I am just simplifying it by using the technology. For example, when something is on sale, I know what steps to take on the calculator to figure out the sale price. So, when learning certain math tasks, its important to learn how to get to the answer first.          <title>Cell Phone</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Cell phone use in the classroom depends on the teacher's teaching style. Some teachers have a strict "no cell phone" policy and some use them daily in their classroom. Historically, I think the challenges were and still kind of are: not everyone has one, cheating (using the calculator, googling answers or texting during tests), student's using social media and wifi/internet issues.&nbsp;<br>The main issue: Does every student has a phone? Every teacher thinks about this before adding cell phones to their lesson. I teach 6th grade, and even at this age not all of my students have phones. So I can't use cell phones for my lessons unless I have iPads for the students that don't have a device. There are many apps that students can use in class, and they can use their phones for research.          <title>3D Printer</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The 3D printer is an amazing innovation that is handy tool for many educational purposes. The first 3D printing was innovated in 1980. But, because it was so expensive and rarely known. In 2009, its patent fell in public domain and became popular. Nowadays, everybody can have one in home. 3D printing enables teachers to 3D print their design. Students can create and visualize their imagination. It is very useful in medical and engineer school. Though, K-12 students are very interested and able to practice it. students become creators and designers.<br>The issue is the adjusting and maintaining the system which will be left for teacher to do it.<br>The other issue is the time of printing which is too long, and may do not let all students in the classroom to print their designed project. <br><br>Tech example: Tablet<br>Leila Mahmoudi<br><br></div><div> </div>]]></description>

         <title>Tablet</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The use of tablets in the classroom is an innovative idea that has been taking place in corporate and some school settings for many years now. They can be used for polling questions, gamification, social media assignments, research and much more.&nbsp;<br>Some of the original technical challenges may have consisted of built-in Bluetooth connectivity issues, managing what the students are actually viewing on the tablet or ipad like product. When working with young students teachers may want to install certain limitation providing software when surfing the web or restrict surfing and stick to certain programs on the tablet only. Another technical dilemma would be how do teachers score what the students are doing on the tablet.          <title>FlipGrid</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>FlipGrid is a great tool for allowing all students to respond verbally to a prompt. Some problems teachers may encounter with it include a simple issue of access. Each student needs to have a device in order to log in. That device also must have video recording capabilities. Additionally, students, whether they're in the classroom or at home, must have an internet connection in order to access the website or app.<br>Additionally, teachers may encounter a problem of motivation. I know that I always put off FlipGrid assignments to the last minute because I don't enjoy recording myself talk (I always think I sound stupid!).          <description><![CDATA[<div>The most important technological challenge that I see with this device if used in education is that it becomes more difficult to engage students. If the voice is not engaging, enthusiastic, instead of monotone learners will lose interest. Becoming creative with this device is important to keep audience engaged. Story telling will be a great tool to use.<br>This is not a device that can be used as a stand alone for purpose of teaching but it could be used as support to add a different venue or resource in learning.<br>Another challenge with this device is you can only use it from home or when driving but if not it cannot be used&nbsp;if out of battery.&nbsp;<br><br>Tech Example: Smart Board<br>Janet Pena</div>]]></description>

         <title>Smart Board</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The greatest challenges of introducing smart boards into a classroom center around ensuring that teachers actually can and do use them to their full potential. I've taught in a classroom before where in order to avoid covering up the chalkboard, a smart board was installed in the upper corner of the front of the room - where no one without a ladder could actually touch it! You would think making the screen actually reachable would be the simplest of issues to address, but apparently even that need can escape people. Furthermore, it can be almost as much of a barrier when instructors haven't been properly trained to use smart boards, and don't know how to take advantage of their capabilities.          <description><![CDATA[<div>When laptops and tablets became more readily available, they revolutionized the way teachers would use technology in the classroom. The challenge that is still being faced now is funding for these useful pieces of technology and keeping up with this technology. As quickly as technology is being put in the classroom, that is how quickly the technology is becoming outdated and in some cases obsolete. It takes tons of funding to get districts to get technology up and running in classrooms and time, but time is a double edged sword in this case because as quickly as they pump out a new iPhone is as quickly as these computer systems are being updated and bettered which is near impossible for districts to keep up with.<br><br>Tech Example: Graphing calculators<br>Venessa Arruti</div>]]></description>

         <title>Chromebook</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Starting out Chromebooks were difficult because, of course, they were a new technology to learn.  I can speak personally to this since I was a well versed Microsoft girl and really still am at my core.  However, Google platforms are different, and people are always resistant in learning new systems.  <br><br>After the initial frustrations of learning all things Google with the help of professional development opportunities and self-help readings, I finally got the gist and then some of how to run the software. Then, it got fun! Do you realize how many apps and the range of concepts and content they cover?! For example, there is a speech to type app that really helps out a teacher on the go. I have used this a few times when needing to do sub plans. It isn't fool proof, but it gets the gist of the information and words. Also, there is a oral reading app that our district uses for our accommodated students in testing situations . That only the Google Docs apps! There are more Docs apps, but in the other Google platforms, apps are still nearly option-less (except in Forms).  Long story short, I have become a fan of Google though I still love my PowerPoint and Word for specific tasks. :) </div>]]></description>

         <title>Chris Webb/iPads</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Introducing iPads to a classroom of primary and secondary students can lead to additional distractions in the classroom. Music, videos, browsing, and gaming can just as easily take up a student's time as actually using it for learning. <br><br>As a training manager with Cummins Inc, a diesel engine manufacturer and service provider, I introduced the Houston branch technicians to using iPads to access web-based repair manuals, as there was no money in the budget to lease a laptop for every technician. We used a Verizon wifi hotspot with 5gb of bandwidth, but we soon discovered that was not enough for two iPads being used 8-10 hours per day. That was mainly because the technicians were using the iPad to stream music while they worked, as well. Since having the iPads improved efficiency, we decided that adding wifi to the shop area was worth the expense. It had the added and unexpected  benefit of technicians bringing their own tablets to use to connect to the online repair manuals. </div>]]></description>

         <title>VR Goggles</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>While VR goggles are fun and exciting, they can be very expensive.&nbsp; Not to mention, most VR goggles attach to a Smart Phone that requires certain specs.&nbsp; If one wants the whole class to participate, it can be a challenge to have a class set of Smart Phones with the requires specs. &nbsp;<br>Also, some emerging research is suggesting that VR goggles can be detrimental to developing eyes.&nbsp; Therefore it is safer to use VR only with older students.<br>Tech Example: iPad</div>]]></description>
