After participating in the empathic exercises reflect on this experience. In your reflection, touch on the following:

• How did you feel physically and emotionally?
• What challenges did you experience doing the exercises?
• How did you cope with them?
• Most importantly, how has this experience changed you or your view of aging or of older adults?

• How did you feel physically and emotionally?
Physically it was difficult to move around, at first it felt a bit silly. Emotionally I felt a bit sad at the end since this is some people's reality.

• What challenges did you experience doing the exercises?
Some challenges were it being hard to taste or smell, as well as to move in general. Opening the safety cap is already hard for me sometimes, I can't imagine how hard it is for actual older people.

• How did you cope with them?
I feel like I coped fine until the question about losing the things you love since you're older.

• Most importantly, how has this experience changed you or your view of aging or of older adults
It made me feel bad for them, I know not all older people have difficulties moving around but a lot of them do. Maybe that is why they change emotionally too.

Haley Robles

What challenges did you experience doing the exercises? Walking, not having good vision, not being able to write properly. • How did you cope with them? I Was stressing, but I tried to keep calm. Most importantly, how has this experience changed you or your view of aging or of older adults?

-Physically and emotionally I felt restrained to doing day-to day-activities in life. It was hard to process knowing these were things I’m going to experience in my life as I get older. Emotionally it's difficult knowing that I couldn’t do things I’m so used to doing with no issue and some things are taken for granted.
-Challenges I experienced doing these exercises were trouble tasting things, using my hands, seeing and hearing things properly. It was mostly difficult to hear I can't imagine living like that everyday.
-I felt okay coping with them mostly since it was a temporary experience.
-This challenge changed my view on aging a lot. I feel like older people need to be helped more in society doing everyday activities. I could imagine it's very hard for them to do something as easy as grocery shopping. Emotionally I can see why they have a change of mindset or overall their personality changes because of the struggles they have to live with.
Jaidyn Hernandez
</sup>

I feel emotionally mad and useless by not seeing anything on the medication label or the blurry sight, the shortness of breathing. Some experiences about the exercise would be the blurry view and the hearing impairment. I was trying to be patient, but it was so stressful not to be able to do the things that was easy. Now that I know how the aging simulation was understanding the older people I can tell that was not easy and how they feel about not seeing or hearing was stressful. I notices this is the reason they are always mad

-Physically I had difficulty buttoning the shirt the most. The lack of bend in the fingers made it much harder than it had to be. Emotionally, while I know this will be reality at a certain point in my life, I chose to enjoy this current stage to the fullest.

-The most challenging part ,hands down, was the experience with the chocolate. I love to cook and eat, and experiencing no taste from something i know the taste of, felt a weird quasi-nostalgic feeling in me. I could not imagine living life without being able to taste anything.

-I coped by knowing that death and aging is inevitable. Nothing in your power will avert your death. We can mitigate the effects of old age, but we have to enjoy every stage.

-This experience made me understand some of the "quirky" activities that elderly people have in their daily basis. Some of the stereotypical foods of old people, can also be explained by this activity.

• How did you feel physically and emotionally?
Physically, when i tried to move I was very slow and it was hard to move. Mentally, it felt sad to know that as we grow up we are going to lose the things we love the most.
• What challenges did you experience doing the exercises?
It was difficult to do the things I was told to do. Reading the book page took a long time, opening the pills was ok, but my walking was very slow and at one point I was about to fall.
• How did you cope with them?
It was hard, but after a while I managed to adapt to the situation. However, it is still hard to believe that we are going to experience this later in life.
• Most importantly, how has this experience changed you or your view of aging or of older adults?
After this experience, it is not hard to see why old people have a certain attitude towards life. Imagine being able to do anything you want for years, and realize that slowly you will not be able to do those things normally. Your family, friends, and hobbies will slowly disappear, and it is quite frustrating and sad. Understand their situation, and help them do the things they are not able to do anymore.

I felt frustrated not being able to see very well because that's where I struggled the most. Not being able to button the shirt was also very frustrating. It also made me feel more empathy towards old people especially since I take care of them. The challenges I faced were being able to find the phone number and buttoning the shirt. I was able to find the number after multiple tries but I was only able to do 2 buttons on the shirt. I was able to cope with all the struggles by just doing the best I can and reminding myself that it's okay if it's not perfect. This experience has made me feel more empathy towards older people. One of the things that really bother me the most is when they're really rude for no reason. But after doing this I realize that they struggle so much so it's hard for them to be happy all the time. They're moody because they can't do the things that they were able to do when they were younger.
-Naomi Escobedo
