Use the + symbol under the heading that feels most relevant to the thing you are uploading. Then you can enter a brief description to accompany the resource.

You can add comments to individual resources or if you have a general question regarding the heading topic you could add these questions as seperate posts using the process above.

The policy is due to be signed off officially by the leadership team soon - after that i plan to update the whole team on the policy, making references to the new elements and their importance.

Thanks to Emily and Jess from GM Moving for their guidance on this - they encouraged us to consider our internal policies and processes before stepping into a space of supporting our wider network. That will be our next step.

Sit down with your working group and work through page 9 questions. Other sports have feedback that this has been a great starting point. 

1. Try not to create a ‘one size fits all’ policy for your sport. Look at the different disciplines and offerings, a different policy position/variation might be needed. 

2. Chunk your sport down. Elite is usually governed by international federations. You can have something different. 

3. Check with other NGBs who have had experience in this space. A few NGBs have great learning within areas such as consultations. 

4. Share, help, support. Reach out to your counterparts in other nations 

5. Whatever policy you create, not everyone will always agree. Be open and transparent with your process and standpoint. Share any supporting documentation you can.

6. Prep staff and your comms team for potential backlash. Be ready for this and prepped. Support staff where needed. Be open and honest with the process you went through. 

7. Publish everything to do with the process you went through. Look at others and what they have published. 

8. Leadership need to take ownership and accountability for policies. It’s important that those in leadership and boards put their names to these projects. This may involve setting up a working group to establish policies with board, then board taking ownership of final policies. Board training will help to ensure these are informed decisions. 

9. Sports councils cannot and will not read and feedback on your policies. It has to be you as the NGB/SGB that signs this off. Ensure you have the education around this. Training for board etc. and ensure the people fronting this know the policies and processes.

10. Ensure you have sought legal assurance.  See above for next workshop dates 

11. Check your insurance in this space.
