She was the wife of George Wilson, owner of a gas station, and mistress to Tom Buchanan, a wealthy married ex-polo player. Her husband, George, was a simple bland man who couldn't offer much to his demanding wife. Myrtle had seen Tom, earlier had day, come by her husbands gas station in a different car, Gatsby's car. That night, while arguing with George, she ran out onto the street and saw the car Tom came with earlier. "As she tried to flag that car down,  she stepped in front of it and she saw her end. Gatsby died at the hands of a grief stricken husband. Wilson, Myrtle's husband, believed Gatsby was driving the "death car": the car that ran over Myrtle and didn't even stop. On page 166, George says, "I have a way of finding out.....I'm one of these trusting fellas and I don't think any harm to nobody, but when I get to know a thing, I know it, It was the man in the car. " And he did. He found out Gatsby was allegedly driving through Tom. He went to Gatsby's mansion and killed him while he was in the pool. Gatsby had everything: wealth, power and influence . But having still loved Daisy, he covered up the fact that she was driving. Daisy was his fascination. There's was nothing outside of her existence that mattered. He bought a   mansion in front of hers to feel close to her. He threw lavish parties to impress her. Gatsby took the blame for her of running over Myrtle and killing her. All his money, time and energy was to conquer her heart like he did 5 years ago. She was impressed wit him 5 years ago but that was dead and gone."I did love him once-But I love you too." She couldn't wait for him, and moved on to assume her extravagant lifestyle. While Gatsby still hanged on tot eh shred of hope that once he impressed her, she would feel the same love that had turned into a distant memory.
