Trust vs. Mistrust typically develops from birth to 18 months old. This is because at this age babies are mostly dependent on whoever is caring for them at the time so they have to learn to trust them to take care of their needs. As said in out book Child 3e, " In these early months, babies need to develop a balance between trust, which lets them form intimate relationships, and mistrust, which enables them to protect themselves.".

Autonomy vs Shame and Doubt typically occurs from 18 months to about 2 or 3 years old. This is the stage where children develop a better grasps of self- control. An example of this would be a parent letting their child chose their own outfits even if they don't go together, and from this children may learn the shame and doubt and cause them to become self-conscious. According to Child 3e, " In these early months, babies need to develop a balance between trust, which lets them form intimate relationships, and mistrust, which enables them to protect themselves." This shows that this stage is also part of a child learning to become more independent.

Initiative vs. Guilt typically develops from the ages of 3 and 5. This is the stage where one would see children start to find a sense of their own power and use that in situations like playing with other children. They would take over the situation. This is when children are also starting want to complete and conqure more things, and the guilt comes when the child is not successful in doing so. In Child 3e it says, " Preschool children can do—and want to do—more and more. At the same time, they are learning that some of the things they want to do meet social approval, whereas others do not."

Industry vs. Inferiority happens from the ages of about 6 to 11. This is the stage where children develop a good sense of self-worth. They are learning useful skills and tasks which in turn is making them feel more useful. They are also finding that they may need to ask for help to be successful at these tasking that they are learning. In Child 3e it says, "If children are unable to obtain the praise of others or lack motivation and self-esteem, they may develop a feeling of low self-worth and thus develop a sense of inferiority." showing how important the Industry part of this development is to ensure that a child isnt left constantly feeling inferior.

Identity vs. Confusion typically appears in the ages of 12 and 18. This is the stage were children move into early adulthood and actual adulthood leading them to feel confused about who they are as person. They work to find who they are and how they fit into this world in this stage. Child 3e states, "Identity forms as young people resolve three major issues: the choice of an occupation, the adoption of values to live by, and the development of a satisfying sexual identity. " These are the three things that 12 to 18 year olds are going to struggle with most in this stage to try and find themselves and where they fit in society.

Intimacy vs. Isolation typically occurs from the ages of 19 and 40. This is the stage where individuals are going to question themselves and if they are good enough or compatible enough for a partner in their lives. They will fall in love and experience break ups that will aid in this process as well. Child 3e says, " People continue to shape their development throughout their lifespans." This is showing that no matter how they are feeling and what caused it that individuals will continue to develop and work through this stage.

Generativity vs. Stagnation occurs between the ages from 40 to 65. This stage is where adults want to either do something positive that will help others even after they are no longer living or having children. Some major life events that can add to this stage would be marriage and having children. A quote I found in Child 3e that I feel really represents this stage is, "We each continue to write and experience the story of human development for ourselves and our society for as long as we live."

Integrity vs. Despair occurs from 65 to death. In this stage an individual is asking themselves if they lead a meaningful life and they tend to reflect in the happy memories in their life. If an individual is able to determine that they had a meaningful life they will be able to have a better psychological well-being. In Child 3e it states, "Growth and development do not screech to a stop even then. People continue to shape their development throughout their lifespans." This quote is showing and proving that in this stage we still continue to develop no matter how old or far we have gotten in life.
