We are focussing on reading for pleasure for this year's World Book Day. Please take time to go through the various resources I've uploaded and choose some activities for your class. We've chosen to dress up in pyjamas, rather than as book characters, to support the message of reading as a way to relax and promote well-being. Please feel free to share your own good ideas/resources here as well.

Complete this 1:1 or in small groups. You may not survey the whole class but getting a good 'snap shot' would be helpful for the school.

KS2 Reading for Pleasure survey

Children who are able, should complete this independently, after you have discussed the questions as a class. Please consider using the KS1 version for SEN children or give additional support to complete this version. It isn't essential that all children do this but a good sample (range of abilities) will give us useful information to consider as a school.

Extreme Reading Challenge

Please encourage as many children to take part in this as possible. For those who want to, but you know it may not happen at home, consider unusual reading places in school: Kitchen, Forest School area, Mr Julian's Office?!

I sure that the kids will also really love seeing their teachers take part in the challenge ....

Please look at the photos handed in so far and use these to prompt the others. Please award children house points if they take part -5 or 10? What ever you feel is appropriate.

I'll share some in assembly but you will have more time to look at the pictures in class.

In school activities

You could choose a book to really focus on for the two days - produce a range of creative responses. There are so many lovely new books in the library. Linked to topic or stand alone.
Shared reading across classes?
Choose a class to visit for the end of day story. This may be easiest amongst key stages. There are some excellent picture books for older children (whole shelf - ask if unsure).
Visit one of the Thetford shops that stock World Book Day books: WHSmith's, The Works, Sainsbury's.
Take part in the live lesson or quiz.
Enter the book token competition.
Talk about reading for pleasure and well being - complete surveys.
Complete the extreme reading challenge in school.

EYFS (Maybe useful for Year 1)

We have lots of lovely new books in the library that can link with the suggested themes. We have a copy of The Rapping Princess and Welcome to our world. I can happily find you some nature exploration and construction texts at the appropriate age range.
