What is the internet?

The internet is a global network of interconnected computers and servers that allows people to communicate, share information, and access vast amounts of data from virtually anywhere in the world. It originated in the 1960s with the development of ARPANET, a project funded by the U.S. Department of Defense to enable reliable communication between research institutions. Over time, ARPANET created the modern internet as more networks and institutions were connected. The internet works through a system of protocols, the most fundamental being the Transmission Control Protocol and the Internet Protocol, which dictate how data is broken down into small packets, transmitted across networks, and reassembled at its destination. These packets travel across physical infrastructure, such as fiber-optic cables and satellites. Which allow users to send emails, browse websites and stream videos.

The most important information I learned from module 1, is how to find the best information or sources from my search results.

This can be done by predicting what my search results will be. By anticipating the types of content that I might such as videos, tables, or diagrams. Taking some time to think about what my search results can be will help me recognize any flaws in my search.

Predicting what type of information a link will give me is very important as well. Analyzing the title of the link and its description will give me a brief idea of what it will contain. Sometimes links will give me information completely unrelated my search.

Source: https://www.kqed.org/mindshift/20731/find-it-faster-by-predicting-your-search-results

-In module 2 I learned that what an email service is and how to utilize it. An email service is a platform that allows users to send, receive, and manage electronic messages (emails) over the internet.

-There are various types of email services, including web based email services (like Gmail, Yahoo Mail, and Outlook), which can be accessed through a web browser, and email client services (such as Microsoft Outlook or Apple Mail), which require a software application installed on your device to manage emails.

-Some email services are free, while others offer paid options with additional features like increased storage or enhanced security. To create an email account, you typically need to visit the website or app of the email service provider, click on “Create Account,” and follow the prompts to enter your information.

In module 2 Cloud storage and computing is also another topic discussed. is a technology that allows you to store, manage, and process data over the internet instead of using a personal computer or local server. I use cloud storage to easily access my assignments, notes, and projects from my laptop. For example, I store my documents and presentations on Google Drive, so I can work on them from my laptop, tablet, or even my phone. This is especially helpful for group projects, as my classmates and I can collaborate in real time on shared files, no matter where we are. Additionally, cloud services like Microsoft OneDrive or Dropbox provide automatic backups of my work, reducing the risk of losing important files due to technical issues with my personal devices. Overall, cloud computing makes my study routine more flexible and secure.

-FTP, or File Transfer Protocol, is a standard network protocol used to transfer files between a client and a server over the internet or a local network. FTP is commonly used to upload, download, and manage files on a website’s server, making it essential for web development, website maintenance, and data transfer tasks. Users typically access FTP servers through an FTP client (such as FileZilla, WinSCP, or Cyberduck), which provides a user-friendly interface for navigating files and directories on both the local computer and the remote server.

-When using an FTP client, I can connect to my website’s FTP server by entering the server’s address, along with my username and password. Once connected I navigate to the directory where the files should be stored on the server, then simply drag and drop the files from the computer to the server directory.

Blogs are sites where individuals or organizations post content on specific topics, allowing readers to comment but focusing mainly on the author’s insights. Forums are community-driven spaces where users start discussions and interact through back-and-forth replies. Similar to discussions boards.
