Social work is a relational based profession. Such views have the ability to erode trust not only in Felix necessarily, but social workers in general. It can be difficult to differentiate between professional standards and personal values. These beliefs inevitably will impact practice.

Social media is a form of communication, it’s like saying it to a crowd of people in a profession where “social” is the first word: working with humans and communities.

He should be held accountable for his words online as I don’t believe he would say it in a group of people whilst representing the profession.

Our table have different opinions.

One believes he should be able to express himself freely to a certain degree.

One believes that he should have been asked to leave. Because if he can be that opinionated, can he be non bias and anti oppressive.

One of us sat on the fence, that it’s questionable.

There is freedom of speech but there is not freedom of hate speech

I agree with his studying of social work being stopped. As a social work student he is representing social work and is supposed working towards anti-oppressive practice and his statements on social media do not demonstrate this.

we believe that he should be able to express him self to a certain extent but he shouldn’t have publicised his views. This also is against the code of ethics which involves non discriminatory language and providing a safe space for clients identities.
