Management upholding ABC procedure

- when students get to Stage 3, even though they can't progress to a higher level course, even behaviour doesn't improve it's difficult to move forward. Then, they tell each other that there's no consequences and others behave that way.

Toilet breaks, hangouts and taking phones.

Attendance maths and English - engaging with parents, checking they're in class - parents in at induction to discuss requirements and expectations across the course.

Low level chatter in large groups.

Adult learners - not turning up which has knock on effect for rest of group in a practical setting, etc

Adult learners- talking during teaching lesson, has an effect on other learners, we need to set strategies and rules to improve rhus bad habit

Setting boundaries when a learner has picked up previous bad habits years before where boundaries have not been strong

Striking the balance between allowing electronic devices in the classroom for learning and learners using them for Snapchat etc or inappropriate use

Toilet breaks - timed as a group “beat the timer”

If a student is on time and work hard, they can leave a little early.

If a student is late, they will be kept for the full duration of the lesson.

I will know this has worked if punctuality increases.

Toilet timers - give 4 minutes then time owed after

Ready respect safe

Every morning and afternoon share the ground rules under this area. Students to participate by writing on the board. Agree an outcome if struggled with a particular area.

Learners to complete attendance feedback sheet as evidence.

I will track attendance % weekly

Hopefully, attendance will improve.

I intend to go to the lessons that my group are in to check they are there, if not phone parents to get them on board. Review weekly and follow ABC if needed

Class rules at start of sessions, as a reminder so it is in the front of their minds what their expectations are.

Need to look at consequence for a number of absences.

Monitor attendance for these groups once conversations have been had and track whether it improves etc

Strategy - agree rules with class and enforcement of them - outline consequences. Examples - bathroom breaks.

Measure the above - decrease in amount of times allowed or requested.

Always start with housekeeping rules in place at the beginning of the session like ready, respect and stay safe

1. 1-1 chat or verbal reminder

2. Waring or chat recorded on Promonitor

3. Change places so they don't sit with friends

4. Formal interventions put in place

5. After class have a Calm discussion, what happened? How can we fix this problem? Focus on reflection, repairing relationships rather than punishment

6. Involve support staff like LSA, behaviour mentors
