Muhammad Hafizuddin Ariff bin Hanipah
A173796
31 July 2022

Week 2 is where I was introduced to the differential calculus. I started to has a good grasp of calculus and I can now see how it work. I also now learn a new term, Leibniz notation, which I never heard before.

Points to remember:
1. The Mean Value Theorem which says that the average rate of change for a smooth function is achieved as an "instataneous rate of change" at some point within the interval. This says that the secant whose slope is the average rate of change over the entire interval has the same slope as the tangent line to the curve at some point within the interval.
2. The infinity symbols ∞ and - ∞ and the arrow notation are used to indicate when some quantity of x is getting arbitrarily large and positive (x → ∞) and arbitrarily large (in magnitude) and negative (x → -∞). These are useful when combined with limit notation in the study and description of asymptotic behavior.
3. Derivative of square function: If y = f(x) = x^2, the rule of the square function, then f'(x) = 2x. For example, f'(6) = 12 and f'(-7) = -14.
Derivative of cube function: If y = f(x) = x^3, the rule of the square function, then f'(x) = 3x^2. For example, f'(6) = 3(6)^2 = 108 and f'(-7) = 3(-7)^2 = 147.
4. In calculus, Leibniz's notation, named in honor of the 17th-century German philosopher and mathematician Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz, uses the symbols dx and dy to represent infinitely small (or infinitesimal) increments of x and y, respectively, just as Δx and Δy represent finite increments of x and y, respectively.

I am happy that I can now remember a bit about calculus that I learnt during my foundation and school years. I hope that I can keep this up and learn the rest of this module during this elective posting.

Calculus can help me to come up with a business plan by evaluating the survey data. Calculus enables a more precise forecast for the best course of action because a survey has a wide variety of questions and possible replies.

My one concern is that if I can keep this up because the course is getting harder and harder but nevertheless I will try to keep my head up and try my best.

Next week we will be learning a new module which is the properties and applications of the derivative. I will continue watching the videos, do some readings and attempt the exercises.

It's pretty interesting as it touches deeper on the nutrition and how it plays their own role.

Point to remember for me
1. Quality is certainly better than quantity. Despite having lots of greens couldn't guaranteed one's health as it may leads to anaemia. Eating varieties of foods with the right proportion is the highlight of a balanced diet.
2. Using the right cutlery to ensure the right amount of food intake such as a small bowl over a large plate of rice

This course is certainly an eye-opener for me to learning how to eat smartly and healthly. I'm beyond gareteful to be exposed to this course.

Things were pretty smoothly lately. However, since it's an American course while trying to prepare some food based on the videos,I've encountered the difficulty to obtain certain ingredients.

My plan for the following week is to be able to learn how to shop for fresh ingredients.

Al Hassan Bin Sajahan
A173593
1st August 2022

In the second week of the course, I learnt about the main differences between industrially processed foods and home cook foods in depth. The case study lecture this week further amplified my knowledge about lifestyle modification in the aspect of foods and diet.

Points to remember.
1. Highly processed foods remove all the nutrients hence, the nutrient density is low but energy content is high. High energy content may sound nice but exceeding daily estimated energy content will increase the risk of getting obesity.
2. WHO advise us to consume less than 10% sugar in the total diet and be aware of pseudo-names sugar from the products in the aisle, however, we can consume intrinsic sugar from fruits and milk without limitation as long as not exceding daily energy value.
3. Home-cook foods are the best not just for physical health but for our mental health.

At the end of the second-week course, I felt more confident to advise my customers regarding diet and nutrition. And, once again I'm grateful to choose this course because I used to understand the higher the energy content of the food, the better it is for us. Hence, after this, ill always looks at the nutrition info of a product before buying it, especially the pseudo-name.

For me, this week was smooth. The only concern is time constraints because I need to complete my elective posting during my 2 hours break time.

In the third week of the course will learn the home-cooking tips. I hope I can enhance my culinary skills afterwards.

Nurul Amirah Binti Jaafar
A174862
1 August 2022

Part 2 of the course discusses on consequences, which refers to the parents' reaction following the child's behaviour. It consists of positive reinforcement and punishment.

Points to remember from week 2 :

1. Positive reinforcement

(a) Developing positive opposites
This is an effective alternative technique to punishment, which has a lot of well-researched studies behind it.
- This technique focuses on the good behaviour instead of focusing on the negative behaviour of the child.

(b) Point program
- To apply this successfully, prepare a point chart.
- List the expected good behaviour with its respective rewards. Rewards may be in form of stars, stickers, or anything as such. For example, the reward of sharing toys with siblings is 2 stars.
- List the reward that can be claimed. For example, a fancy meal can be claimed with a total of 10 stars collected.
- Make the reward available every week and let the child choose the reward. 10 stars may provide fancy meal but the exact meal should be chosen by the child.

(c) Attending and Planned Ignoring
- Attending is providing attention to the child upon noticing a positive behaviour.
- Planned ignoring is used when the child commits a negative behaviour.
- Planned ignoring is NOT effective without attending as the child may not feel acknowledged when doing good.

2. Punishment

Common negative side effects :

1. Emotional reactions.

2. Escape and avoidance (physically and psychologically).

3. Increased aggression.

4. Modelling effect.

(a) Time Out
It is a brief period when the child does not have access to the usual rewards of being in the presence of parents or having privilege to play.
- Maximum time out is 5 minutes. Anywhere longer is not effective.
- Do not use physical coercion to force the child for a time out.

- Do not lock the room during which the child is in time out.

(b) Spanking and alternatives
- Spanking causes aggression, disruptive and antisocial behaviour, poor academic achievement, inability to control impulsive behaviour later in life, and higher rates of mental problems in childhood and adulthood.
- Youths who have been regularly spanked are more likely to die at a younger age during adulthood; due to heart disease, cancer, and chronic respiratory disease.

My feelings and thoughts
This subtopic is an eye-opener for me as I learned other alternatives to punishing bad behaviour in children, which is rather common in our society. I think it is important to educate Malaysian parents about other techniques which are evidence-based and available to discipline their kids.

One good thing that I can practice is to spread the awareness by writing!

The difficulty related to this is to implement planned ignoring when a child misbehaves. It takes practice but as the aforementioned update from week 1, I have no children to practice to begin with.

My plan for next week is to have an additional reading materials from Tarbiyatul Aulad fil Islam written by Abdullah Nasih Ulwan (Ph.D) and Psikologi Si Kecil written by Rozanizam Zakaria (MBBS, MMed).

Pua Qian En
A174632
2.8.2022

In the second week, I had learned about the foundations of cascading style sheets (CSS). I started with the basics, then move on to rule conflict resolution, the box model, and CSS layout techniques. Besides, I also learned how to use media queries and code responsive websites without any frameworks.

Points to remember :

1. A CSS rule consists of selector which should apply to the content of every single paragraph tag in the entire HTML page, to specify the designation of the webpage. For example :

a:link, a:visited
{
 text-decoration: none;
 background-color: green;
 border: 1px solid blue;
 color: black;
 display: block;
 width: 200px;
 text-align: center;
 margin-bottom: 1px;
}

2. The element selector, the class selector and id selector can be combined to create a more targeted selection within the document object model.

For id selector (the # should be put in front of the id):

#mainPoint
{
 font-size: 24px;
 font-weight: bold;
 background-color: red;
 opacity: .7;
}

<span id="mainPoint"> content </span>

For class selector (the . should be put in front of the class)

.highlight {
 font-size: 20px;
 font-weight: bold;
 font-style: italic;
 background-color: green;
 opacity: .6;
}

<p class="highlight">Lorem ipsum </p>

3. Pseudo-class selectors address targeting only the structures that can be targeted by simple combinations of regular selectors, or targeting the ability to style based on user interaction with the page. For example

:link (to add style to an universal link)
:visited (to add style to a visited link)
:hover (to add style to element which we mouse over it)
:nth-child (to add style to nth child of the element)
:lang (to define language of certain element)

4. The choice for placing styles in one versus another place not only affect how reusable the styles are, but it also affects which style declarations override other style declarations.

I felt quite anxious and depressed somehow while starting to learn the whole new knowledge from different field. However, I ever to cope with it and finished my study materials for this week, and now I a, grateful for joining this course to learn more about computer science and coding languages.

One good thing that I did which I can practice from now was trying hard to learn new knowledge and never gave out against the difficulties.

The only difficulty for me was the heavy and hard study materials. But thanks to the resources given, I was managed to cope with it.

My plan for next week will be coding and managing a medical related web site project.

Shameena Gill

A178344

03/08/22

In the second week, I learnt more about the types of algorithms used in machine learning. In the past two weeks, I have gained a lot of knowledge. However, due to the complexity of the subject matter and the fact that it still remains a fairly foreign topic made it a bit difficult for me to grasp the new concepts. All in all, my progress has been good as I am currently own track to finish the course in the required timeframe.

A few points to remember from this week would be as below.

The No Free Lunch theorem applies very heavily in supervised machine learning as there is a large number of learning algorithms that can be utilised. The choice on which one to use depends on the size and structure of the datasets.

Decision tree alhorithms are one of the examples. This are fast and easy to train. Hence, it remains a favourite in machine learning. An example would be yes/no answers for an input such as presence of fever and whether or not it indicates pneumonia. More data can be incorporated into the decision tree to make a more complex algorithm.

Im excited to see what the following weeks bring and I hope I can keep up my momentum as well as retain the information to make a comprehensive final project. From this project, I believe I can now critically analyse data and pick out potential biases.

I have encountered no significant difficulties other than the complexity of the material but I think sticking to my schedule should pay off for me. For week 3, I will continue my lessons and maybe start brainstorming for the final e-poster.

HUSNA BINTI HASRI
A171602

6th AUGUST 2022

For my second week of elective posting, I learned all about sources for a news article.

Point I need to remember include:

The best source would be the journalist themselves. However, since we cannot be in two places at once, we have to rely on other people as sources.

Sources should be transparent and reported. They should not remain anonymous so that the credibility of a reported would not be jeopardize.

Sources can be anonymous if real harm could come on to them when the news article is published. However, we need to weighed it carefully because if the case is called onto court, a journalist isn't protected by law.

We can gather information though interview, crowd-sourcing, documents and conference.

I felt that there are much to consider in making a news article. I am in awe with just how much goes into writing a news article given the time constraint that they have.

What I could practice now might be gathering information from document or social media. I am currently experimenting both to gauge which type of source would be suitable for me to write up my final output which is a news article.

I have my difficulties though it is not regarding the Elective Posting itself but more of my personal life. First half of the week I fell sick though fortunately I tested negative for Covid-19. The latter half of the week on Thursday night my grandmother was warded and I had to take care of her for a few days. These obstacles caused a bit of a delay in both completing the second phase of my elective posting as well as the submitting my weekly report but nonetheless I aim to speed it up in the third week to make up for lost time.

Next week (Week 3), is where I learn how to effectively deliver news to my audience.

Alia Maisara Adenan
A176990

Week 2 was about starting UX design process and it begins with thinking like a UX designer. As repeated multiple times from the start of the course, UX designers are to think of users first.

1. Most of the initial UX research that are conducted at the beginning of the project will be focused on getting to know the characteristics of the users, their goals, and their pain points. Understanding the user empowers designers to design experiences that are helpful or easy to use.

2. Questions to ask during research stage in recognising users' characteristics would be: How familiar are my users with technology? How are my users accessing the product or service? Where are my users accessing the product or service? Do my users have impairments or disabilities to consider?

3. Assistive technology or AT is used to describe products, equipment and systems that enhances learning, working and daily living for people with disabilities. However, there are many people who uses AT even without identifying as having a disability. AT covers a wide range of devices even prosthetics, pointing devices, electrical wheelchairs and a whole lot more.

4. A UX design framework covers five stages starting with empathise, define, ideate, prototype and test. Rather than seeing this framework as a linear process, it should be thought as iterative as there will be times when we will have to repeat certain phases as we refine designs. Examples of user designs would be universal, inclusive and equity-focused design. There are many more approaches to create a product centered to users however the key point is that all the approaches are to solve underrepresentation and designing for a more equitable future.

There was no major difficulties in going through this week of the course but the terns, the concepts can be confusing despite the straightforward idea of thinking about users and this is especially difficult when the week review exam requires us to identify the stage in the design process based on the situation provided. It was fun to solve the problems in the quizzes.
