         <description><![CDATA[<div>This source is from a European/Eurasian man who had lived through the Japanese Occupation. <br><br>It is relevant as it shows me that even though most people suffered, his family was able to receive better treatment as his father was working in the Istana during the Occupation. <br><br>The source mentions that when the Japanese came around to the Istana, the interviewee's aunt will be very nice to the Japanese soldiers by giving them foot massages and frying tapioca for them. Because of that, one of the Japanese soldiers sympathised with the family, and hence pasted a piece of yellow paper on the door. This protected the family from harassment from other Japanese soldiers. The Japanese would even appear with food supplies like sugar and rice because the yellow paper indicated that the family was part of the authority.<br><br>From this, I can see that not all Europeans/Eurasians were captured by the Japanese, and being able to stay on the good side of some of the Japanese soldiers would help to keep the family safe.
