The migration started in 1930 and ended in 1936 resulting in 2.5 million people  migrating during that time period. The dust bowl wasn’t just extreme dust storms, it was also droughts which led American families to migrate and abandon their farms. Lots of the migrants migrated to California from places like Oklahoma and Texas. Though they themselves were American, the migrants were viewed as intruders by the Californians. Soon luck was in favor of those who had migrated as during World War II, they had blended into the California population and only 25 percent were still working as farmers.
