- most Americas spend Easter Sunday with family decorating eggs
- in some families they organize an egg hunt = children looking for candies and eggs
- there is a traditional Easter Egg Roll in front of the white house on Easter Monday
- the same egg hunt is organized in almost every public park

Czech Republic

-decorating eggs, baking parschal lamb
- on morning of Easter Monday, boys and men whip girls and women with willow sticks to make sure they will be healthy for the rest of the year
- girls gives them treats and eggs as a reward

December 25^th – Christmas Day
- in the morning children enjoys opening their presents
- at middays there is a Christmas dinner (roast turkey, baked potatoes and Christmas pudding)

December 26^th – Boxing Day
- most people go out to see their friends and spend some time together

United States
- they are celebrating Christmas at Christmas day 25^thDecember
- the day before children hang up their Christmas stockingsand expecting presents from Santa Claus
- Santa comes by a chimney during the night
- Christmas dinner is composed of turkey with potatoes and other vegetables
- They also bake Christmas cookies
- Then follows boxing day = collecting money and giving them to poor people

Czech Republic
- people starts preparing for Christmas 4 weeks before
- this period of time is called Advent
- people have advent wreaths with 4 candles, 1 for each Advent Sunday
- a lot of people buy Christmas tree

Christmas Eve is on December 24^th  (the most important day of Christmas)
- there is a tradition which says the you shouldn’t eat anything to see a golden pig
- the dinner usually consist of fish soup, schnitzel or fried fish and potato salad
- after dinner people sit around the Christmas tree and opening their presents
- children believes that Jesus brings them the presents
- many people go to church in the evening
- next two days people usually visit their family and friends

People meet with friends, watch TV or go out to a party and have fun.

At midnight they open a bottle of champagne and wish each other love, happiness, health … in the new year.

Many people make New Year’s resolutions.

On New Year’s Eve we make a bonfires and fireworks.

In English-speaking countries people go to traditional gathering points and they sing old songs.

(=At midnight there is a great cheer, people cross arm, link hands for a traditional song, “Auld Lang Syne”.)

In Scotland, New Year's Eve has a special name - Hogmanay.

They make a national dish which is called haggis (minced heart, lungs and liver of a sheep, boiled in a sheep 's stomach with oatmeal.

There is a tradition called "First foot".

If the first person coming into the house in the New Year is a tall, dark man, and somebody you don't know, he will bring good luck.

The first foot usually brings several gifts, including perhaps a coin, bread, salt, coal, or a drink, which represent financial prosperity, food, flavour, warmth and good cheer.

Easter Monday

• Men and boys whip women or girls with “Pomlázka”

• Women and girls paint eggs and give them to men for whipping them with a “pomlazka”

• for breakfast you can eat a cake in the shape of the Easter lamb
