However, she still wants to be a part of their family. In the thirteenth picture, Hollis feels guilty because Steven wouldn't have driven the truck and accidentally driven it off the mountain, if he hadn't had to come to get Hollis. Hollis went venturing up the mountain, fell and hurt her foot, and Steven had to come get her, accidentally driving the truck off of the mountain.

This relates to the theme because it shows how important it is to Hollis to be with the Regans. 

Hollis choose not to stay with the Regans, just because she felt guilty for hurting Steven. Later however, Steven found Hollis, and Hollis asked Stevens parents to let her come back with them. Stevens parents, the Old Man and Izzy, gladly welcomed Hollis back. Josie seems to simply be carefree at first, but Hollis then realizes that she forgets things. She doesn't forget everything, but she forgets enough to be worrisome. After a while, Hollis loves Josie, and she begins to consider staying with Josie. 

This relates to the theme because it shows how important it can be to be with your loved ones. Hollis loves Josie, and she wants to stay with her, but she also still misses the Regans.

Josie is an important person in Hollis's live, but so are the Regans. Hollis misses Steven, Izzy, and the Old Man, but she feels like she needs to stay with Josie to take care of her. Later however, when Hollis finds out that she is supposed to go stay with another family, she and Josie run away to the Regans summer house in branches. Steven finds them, and she finally reunites with Steven. This all shows how important it must have been to Hollis that she is with people she loves, that she ran away just to avoid being apart from Josie and the Regans.

She was kinder, when everyone else thought she was mean. Hollis loved the Regans, and they brought out the best in her. She found that she could be a better person, with a better life, just by being kind and letting people in. 

This relates to the story because it proves how much better Hollis was with the Regans.

At first, Hollis is a mean girl. A rude person, that never cared about any of her foster parents. She didn't care, and she most certainly didn't want to have any relationships with anyone. This changes, though, when Hollis meets the Regans. She tries to be kind to them, just because of how kind they are to her. They treat her like a daughter that they love, not a burden that they hate. They are nice, and it makes her want to be nice too. Hollis even recognizes that she is turning over a new leaf. She goes to the top of Old Man's Mountain, and shouts to the whole world that she is a new, good, better person.
