Some of my favorite memories of Don show his prankster side. When I took his ecology and restoration lab several years ago he spent the first week teaching us to ID plants using Newcomb's Wildflower Guide. He found a cannabis plant in the MSJ woods and gave it to us to identify. He found this very funny. He also had me taste an immature persimmon. It was so astringent I couldn't talk for several minutes. His entire being laughed.
