They get to watch the teacher do it correctly, so they can then do it correctly themselves. Modeling is heavily relied upon by visual and auditory learners. They get to SEE how the process is done and HEAR why it is done that way. Then when they go to do it themselves, it makes so much more sense! They are colorful, tangible, and show the "how" and the "why" certain math processes work the way they do! Students can see, touch, hold, move around, and work with manipulative with their own hands. Manipulatives help students match vocabulary terms with certain shapes, metrics, and more.
