Explain that everyone is unique and has different qualities.</p><p>·&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Introduce the book <strong>“Just Ask”</strong> and its themes of acceptance and curiosity.</p><ol start="2"><li><p><strong>Read-Aloud: “Just Ask” (20 minutes)</strong></p></li></ol><p>·&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Read the book aloud to the class.</p><p>·&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Pause to discuss the characters and their diverse qualities.</p><p>·&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Emphasize that everyone has unique abilities and challenges.</p><ol start="3"><li><p><strong>Activity 1: “Our Unique Qualities” (20 minutes)</strong></p></li></ol><p>·&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Each student shares <strong>two to three items</strong> that are important to them (e.g., a favorite toy, hobby, a family tradition).</p><p>·&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Create a colorful display on chart paper with sticky notes representing these unique qualities they have written/braille down.</p><p>·&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Discuss how our differences make our classroom vibrant.</p><ol start="4"><li><p><strong>Activity 2: “Commonalities” Game (15 minutes)</strong></p></li></ol><p>·&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Pair students randomly.</p><p>·&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Each pair identifies <strong>three things they have in common</strong> (e.g., favorite color, hobbies).</p><p>·&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Share commonalities with the whole class.</p><p>·&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Highlight that even though we’re unique, we can find similarities too.</p><ol start="5"><li><p><strong>Discussion: Celebrating Differences (15 minutes)</strong></p></li></ol><p>·&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Discuss the diverse qualities mentioned in the book.</p><p>·&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Focus on the characters with special educational needs (e.g., Rafael using an inhaler and ask the class who uses an inhaler in our classroom, who uses a walking cane etc.).</p><p>·&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Talk about how everyone contributes to the community garden.</p><ol start="6"><li><p><strong>Writing Activity: “My Unique Qualities” (20 minutes)</strong></p></li></ol><p>·&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Students write about their own unique qualities.
