Assalamualaikum, for the first week, we discussed about 2 topics. Which are Adab in Learning Knowledge and Al-quran as The Book Of Guidance. May i explain some points made by Sr. Nuralia:

1) Adab in Learning Knowledge.

Adab is just as important as the knowledge itself. Knowledge without adab can lead to misuse and one being full of himself.

One must have the right intention for seeking knowledge. Seek knowledge for the sake of Allah, not for showing off, arguing, or gaining status.

Most importantly, one must have respect for Teachers. Listen carefully and avoid interrupting while someone is teaching.

2) Al-quran as The Book Of Guidance.

The Qur’an shows the right path that leads to success in this world and in the Hereafter.

Guidance in all aspects of life. Guidance in aqidah, ibadah, akhlaq and shari'ah all can be found in the Quran.

The Qur’an is a guidance for all people regardless of time, place, or culture. Its teachings remain relevant for modern issues and is very adaptable to changes.

That concludes week 1. Thank you for reading 𖹭

Let's get right to it :

1) Hadis Jibril

It tells the story of when the Malaikat Jibril came to the Prophet Muhammad S.A.W in the form of a clean man in a white outfit, sat with him and asked a series of questions in front of the companions.

From this story we could learn the ettiquette between teacher and student. For instance, Q&A session with teacher and wearing clean clothes to a knowledge gatherings.

Hadis Jibril is classified into three parts which are Islam, Iman and Ihsan. Hence our next topic is the five pillars of Islam.

2) The Five Pillars Of Islam.

Declaration of Shahadah

Perform 5-times daily Salah

Zakah

Fasting in the month of Ramadhan

Fulfill Hajj (if capable)

That is a wrap for week 2.

Assalamualaikum, for usrah week 5, we discussed 2 topics. The topics are Ihsan and The Hereafter. Let me explain the points :

1) Ihsan

Ihsan is broad. Ihsan is about sympathy, compassion and more. To put it simply, ihsan is the good deeds we do to other people and other beings also everything we do to gain rewards from Allah.

There is ihsan towards animals. For instance, slaughtering the animals mercifully during Hari Raya Korban by cutting the red vessel.

There is also ihsan towards other human beings. For example, muslims are not supposed to kill women, children and the elderly.

Surah Al-israk verses 23-24 talks about ihsan. It said to worship Allah alone, this shows ihsan in worship. The verses also talk about showing kimdness, respect and compassion to parents. This shows ihsan in behavior.

2) The Day of Judgement

There are many names of The Hereafter such as The Day of Resurrection, The Day of Accounting, The Day of Religion and more.

The two types of The Day of Judgement which are minor signs and major signs.

Some people predict the Day of Judgement but are always wrong. We as muslims cant believe in these predictions because only Allah knows about the exact time.

That's all from me, thank you for reading 𖹭

Week 5 : Fasting and Its Virtues

Assalamualaikum. By the mercy of Allah SWT, I was able to attend our Week 5 usrah session with my sisters. In this session, we discussed fasting (sawm) and its virtues. This discussion helped me understand that fasting is not merely abstaining from food and drink, but a comprehensive act of worship that nurtures the heart, mind, and character.

Allah SWT says:

“O you who believe! Fasting is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, so that you may attain taqwa.” (Surah al-Baqarah 2:183)

This verse shows that:

Fasting is an obligation specifically addressed to believers.

Fasting was also practiced by previous nations, such as the Jews and Christians.

Allah mentions earlier nations to ease the burden and motivate Muslims to perform better.

The ultimate objective of fasting is to develop taqwa (mindfulness of Allah)

Understanding Taqwa and Its Relation to Fasting

Taqwa comes from the root word wiqāyah, which means protection or prevention.

It refers to being cautious and mindful of anything that displeases Allah SWT.

Fasting trains a person to control desires and remain conscious of Allah even when no one is watching.

Through fasting, believers learn to restrain themselves from both physical and spiritual sins

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“If one does not give up false speech and evil actions, Allah has no need for him to give up his food and drink.” (Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī)

This hadith highlights that:

Fasting is not only physical abstinence.

Moral behaviour, honesty, and self-control are essential.

A fast without good character loses its true value

Virtues of Fasting

1. Ṣabr (Patience) and Self-Restraint

Fasting nurtures ṣabr in three main aspects:

1. Patience in obeying Allah SWT

2. Patience in abstaining from what Allah has prohibited

3. Patience when facing hunger, thirst, and daily challenges

Through fasting, Muslims learn endurance, discipline, and perseverance

2. Levels of Fasting According to Imām al-Ghazālī

Imām al-Ghazālī categorised fasting into three levels:

1. Minimum level – Abstaining from food, drink, and sexual relations.

2. Intermediate level – Guarding the tongue, eyes, ears, hands, and limbs from sin.

3. Optimal level – Purifying the heart from worldly distractions and focusing fully on Allah SWT.

This classification shows that fasting is meant to purify both the body and the soul

3. Raḥmah (Mercy and Empathy)

Fasting instills raḥmah by:

* Allowing Muslims to feel hunger and thirst, helping them empathize with the poor.

* Encouraging acts of charity and feeding others.

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“Whoever provides food for a fasting person to break his fast will have a reward like that of the fasting person, without reducing his reward.” (At-Tirmidhī)

This teaches compassion, generosity, and social responsibility
