As we begin to wrap up the year I will take those letters back out and allow my students to read them but also sit back and have conversations based off of those letters to really see how things may have changed and really how they feel if they reached their goals or not. 
One thing that stood out from the document was two questions :  
  • If you were to give yourself advice based on your learning from this year, what would it be and why?
  • What is something your teacher did well and what’s something they could do better . 
These two questions really allow me to challenge my students but as a first year teacher get the feedback I need to become better ..

My students must complete a huge test next week (after dozens of other huge tests this 9-weeks). It has been hard to convince them that learning and education is important, especially when we also hyper-emphasize the importance of these state tests to simply meet a graduation requirement. With all of this in mind, I have been thinking about what an end of year conversation should look like. 

I was thinking... "What is one thing you learned this year?" After reading this page on end of year conversations, I see I can have a much more meaningful conversation. I hope to take time to reflect, but also time to inspire motivation for the future. Next year my students will be in the 12th grade. 

I will ask these questions:

  • What are 1-2 things you did this year to help classmates?
  • What is something your teacher does well? What is something your teacher can do better?
