In the letter that King Henry IV sent to Pope Gregory after receiving a letter from Pope Gregory, King Henry says that the pope has never been able to lead on be a position of authority without making mistakes and causing mass confusion. This is directly accusing Pope Gregory of leading a terrible job and not helping at all. When Henry says making it a source of confusion is telling the Gregory that what he did was bad and did not do the job correctly. Also when the king says that Gregory makes it a curse to people instead of something good. In other words the king is telling him that the he does at terrible job at what he is supposed to be doing. This is an example of accusing.

In his letter to the King, Pope Gregory mentioned the fact that the King should show respect for God, and for him to progress in faith. Since a religious figure is using very Christian terms and meaning in a letter to the king, this exhibits an acceptance of being religious and using its terminology. Therefore, The Middle Ages was a religious time.

Whilst writing about The Black Plague, Michael Platiensis describes its contagious factors. He states that an infected person could infect a healthy person just by speaking to them. In the modern age, it is believed that a disease can't spread just by speaking to someone. The disease would have to be spread through various means, such as touching an infected surface, or by fluid means. Therefore, ignorance is displayed by this statement, an example of The Middle Ages being an ignorant time.

Conservative people don't try new ways and don't try to progress with new things because they don't like to change ways. In the evidence it tells us that many historians believe the Middle Ages was a time of pause. When there is no change people are sticking to their old ways because that is the only way they can do anything without change. Sticking to old ways is conservative too making not progressing conservative. The evidence also explains why they did not change and they did not change because of religion and what they already believed they knew. When you stick to something like religion and don't progress it is conservative which directly relates to our characteristic of the Middle Ages.

Not trying new ways and sticking to the same thing is conservative, connecting conservative and ignorant as characteristics of the Middle Ages.
