I loved my time there and wish I could go back and do it all over again. The university had an amazing Erasmus programme that organised intercambios and trips to places like Seville and Morocco. Alicante also has other Erasmus organisations outside of the university which was fantastic as they all organised events which were perfect opportunities to not only practice Spanish but also meet students from around the world. I got to meet the most amazing people and travel to places I never thought possible. I spent 6 months in a small town in the Jura Region called Champagnole which was quite remote and cut off transport-wise. While it’s very unlikely that you’ll be in this town, you may end up somewhere rural like me. Spending your year abroad in the countryside is a completely different experience to the typical city-based placement

So I spent my year living here in Montpellier which is a beautiful city and one of the most student-orientated cities in France. I spent the year studying at a university and can help anyone who needs it with the admin for said institution, accommodation, transport and other advice to make your stay easier and to get your bearings quicker!!

Not many people know about Asturias, which makes it the perfect place to practice your spanish and explore its natural beauty! I loved my time here and did lots of travelling and met the best people. The ESN are also one of the best in Spain, so you will have no bother meeting people and will never be bored. Not to mention, Asturias has the best food in Spain! I would definitely reccomend visiting, even if you don't go here!

Madrid is the most amazing city and I would recommend it to anybody. I must admit, it overwhelmed me a little at first, and I did have my share of bad days, but I felt safe there and it is a welcoming place- after a little exploring and putting myself out there I started to feel right at home. If you decide to do British Council in Madrid you will be placed in a school in la comunidad, but not necessarily in the city. My school was situated an hour outside of the city but seeing as the public transport is so cheap and efficient in Madrid, my commute was very manageable. I studied in Universidade do Minho (Braga) I stayed there during my first semester instead of second because I wanted to challenge myself as Portuguese was my weaker language at the time. I really enjoyed being there, I recommend visiting the nearby cities, Porto, Guimaraes, Barcelos etc. Unfortunately I didn't do much travelling about due to doing a lot of work in the university; it is definitely worthwhile travelling, just make sure you balance uni and travelling so that you can see other places. ESN Minho are absolutely fantastic and you should definitely take part in all their events, I didn't start joining until late October/early November, but I thoroughly enjoyed the powerhouse Mondays drinking every Monday night, with cool themes and plenty of fun. I definitely plan visiting in the future.
