         <description><![CDATA[<div>A <mark>brass instrument</mark> is a musical instrument that makes sound by vibration of air inside a tube shaped <mark>resonator</mark>. The vibration is caused by the player's lips. The player's <mark>embouchure</mark>, lip tension, and air pressure allow the player to choose which <mark>harmonic series</mark> they are required/would like to play in.<br>There are three different ways to change pitch within the harmonic : <mark>slides</mark>, <mark>valves</mark>, or keys. The use of these tools change the length of the tube that is vibrating and changes the pitch that is available within that harmonic series.<br>The valved brass instruments are the most common and include the trumpet, flugel horn, french horn, mellophone, euphonium, tuba, and sousaphone.<br>The slide brass instruments include the trombone family: soprano trombone, alto trombone, tenor trombone, bass trombone, contrabass trombone, and the cimbasso.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Polyatomic ions in ionic compounds</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>An ionic compound can occur between<mark> monoatomic</mark> <mark>cations </mark>and <mark>anions</mark>, or may be created as a result of the ionic attraction between either a <mark>polyatomic </mark>ion and an opposing atomic ion, or between two polyatomic ions of opposite electrical charge.  For example, the chemical compound magnesium sulfide, MgS, occurs because of the attraction between a magnesium atom that has lost two <mark>valence electrons</mark>, resulting in the cationic electrical charge of +2, and a sulfur atom (now termed a sulfide ion) that has gained 2 electrons in its outer orbital, resulting in the overall anionic charge of -2.  In the instance of aluminum sulfate (Al2(SO4)3), however, the anionic component of the formula unit consists of a group of covalently bonded atoms that both share valence electrons and <strong>also </strong>have an imbalance between protons and electrons resulting in a negative electrical charge.  The ionic bond in aluminum sulfate therefore forms between a monoatomic cation (Al+3) and a polyatomic anion (SO4-2) made of one sulfur atom and four oxygen atoms (and, of course, two extra electrons).  The difference in electronegativity between aluminum and the sulfate group drives the formation of the ionic bond.  Studying alternative forms of ionic bonding <strong>factors </strong>in a well-rounded chemistry education because of the diversity of bonding possibilities between a myriad of atoms.  Bear in mind that studying symbolic representations of subatomic interactions also serves to increase creative understanding of chemical reactions <strong>because </strong>such abstract concepts can be difficult to visualize, <strong>however</strong>, symbolic <strong>representations </strong>should not be relied upon as the sole means of understanding chemical reactivity.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Some students prefer to <mark>multiply </mark>left to right. The common algorithm is right to left, the opposite of the way we read….goofy. Don’t let any teachers tell you that left to right is an unacceptable way to <mark>calculate</mark> these problems because it will be you, not them who has to get the correct answer or <mark>product</mark>. To find the correct <mark>product</mark> with the left to right method just work on the <mark>digits </mark>of your <mark>factors </mark>starting from the left, also remember that the trailing zeros will have to be accounted for. However, you may have more numbers to add to get your final <mark>product</mark>. Example 23 x 31 is (20 x 30) + (20 x 1) + (30 x 3) + (3 x 1). This may look strange when you write it out. This method also has the advantage of allowing you to do more complicated math problems in your head.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Today we are going to learn about the four basic techniques when using watercolors because this will help improve our skills in showing various imagery to creating textures in our artwork. The four watercolor techniques are wet on dry, wet on wet, dry on dry, and finally dry on wet. Each of these techniques represents different effects that it will have in your painting. Wet-on-Wet is when the paper has a generous amount of water and with the paint brush wetted first then loaded with the paint. When applying this onto your damped paper, the paint will saturate and disperse throughout the spot that you have placed the brush. Wet-on-Dry is when the brush is wet and the paper is dry. Your brush strokes will look softer and subtler. Dry on Dry is when you apply less water onto your brush and your paper is dry. This will allow you to have more control over your paint strokes as you apply it in the paper. Also, since you are able to control the paint on the brush better with this technique, you are able to paint finer lines to outline objects. Dry-on-Wet means that your paper is wet and the paint brush has very little water on it, but enough to hold paint. Because the paper is wet, the brushstrokes will look somewhat defined but the outer edges of your paint stroke will appear to be spreading out. However, be sure to factor in the amount of water that you are using for any of these four watercolor techniques in order to create your design. <br><br></div>]]></description>
