He knows it and he bullies all of the other animals around. After being convinced to leave the jungle and do tricks in the circus, he learns what it is like to be bullied and recognizes the error in his ways.
Teaching Idea: This book would be a perfect lesson on the golden rule of "treat others the way you want to be treated". After reading the story, I can ask my students to think of a time where they have been bullied, and a time when they have bullied someone else, in order to demonstrate how unnecessary bullying really is.

A long the way they encounter several dangerous animals and work together as a group to make it to their new home.
Teaching Idea: After reading this book to the students I could start a conversation about how different the three animals were, and because of their differences they could have chose to go off on their own. Instead, they worked together and succeeded despite their differences.

So the Hippo bullies the Lion, the Lion bullies the Leopard, and down the chain it goes. Why do the bigger ones always pick on the smaller ones?
Teaching Idea: Another book that strongly relates to the ideas of bullying and conflict resolution, this book sparks the interesting question of why bullying tends to happen from one larger person towards a generally smaller person. After discussing with a partner, students could be encouraged to share their answers with the class.
