I've worked in veterinary clinics and doggy daycare settings for the last ten years, and have been influenced and inspired by the love and complexities of animals and their needs. The community that surrounds animal care, behavior and health is amazing and diverse. I have two dogs, two cats and a snake of my own, that I would be lost without.

Culture of Kindness, Inspired by Buddhism

My husband practices Buddhism and has a great influence on me. Being around the influence of kindness to all things has helped me to become a more compassionate and gentler person. I used to kill bugs without a second thought, though I now realize the impact that they have, though they are tiny. Spiders, for example, used to freak me out, though now I see them as helpers that keep more destructive bugs at bay (especially as a gardener). I understand that they are so often misunderstood and that they did not choose to be a spider, or a mosquito, etc. and because of this, I'm also able to stop, watch and appreciate their purpose that is so often overlooked.

The first 23 years of life came with a lot of turbulence, between having a parent and sister struggle greatly with addiction and alcoholism, battling mental health conditions, the loss of said parent and sister, I have continued to push myself to get better with the help of both traditional and alternative methods of therapy and medication. I've seen the depths of where depression can lead, and I know that I don't want to see it again and have been able to utilize tools to help to realign with myself in ways that I would never have known possible. Mindfulness is my primary means of coping, and it has brought about a calmness and collection that I didn't know was possible. I've become acutely aware of my emotions and how to moderate my reactions. I'm human, so I still have occasional struggles, but I feel so much more in control of myself, and in turn, have been able to love myself.

We are planning on moving to Wisconsin when I have completed my schooling. We were going to move this fall, but plans changed when we found out that we are having a baby, and I decided to pursue a Mortuary Science degree. In researching where to move, I fell in love with the love that Wisconsinites have for the Green Bay Packers, which is the only community-owned NFL team. After sparking an interest in Wisconsin and loving their Packer pride, I decided to learn about football, and became a cheesehead, myself.
